• Re: Beomaster 5500 + CX 100

As others have stated, a remote should be your top priority here if you are truly interested. With the Beomaster 5500, all you can do is power it on, mute it, and change the channels that may or may not be preset in it's memory currently. I have both the Beolink 1000, and the Master Control Panel 5500. The Master Control Panel is much easier to use for this model, and also allows more options. The loudness button for example. The Beolink 1000 can not control the Loudness control on the Beomaster

  • Re: My Beolab Penta's (questions and restoration thread)

So I was able to spend a little time on these yesterday. First I tried to use a Q-Tip and glue method to un-dent the dust caps, but I proved to not have the proper patience for it. I also tried the cardboard tube and suck method, but I proved to not have enough suction for that. I wanted to save the pin method as a last resort, because I knew it would leave a small hole, so I went back to the Shop Vac method. This time with a much bigger and more powerful Shop Vac. This worked! I had to use two fingers

  • My Beolab Penta's (questions and restoration thread)

So I know I've been kind of all over the place here, but I'm really enjoying the Bang & Olufsen lifestyle and vintage products. So I took a plunge and bought a pair of Beolab Penta 1 speakers (6603). I knew they would have some of the usual issues. Rotted surrounds on the mids, and an amp supposedly has an issue as well. My goal with this thread will be to document the repairs as best as I can, and also to ask questions of others who have done similar restorations. This pair of Penta's

  • Re: Challenge for the brave - anyone up for it?!

Seeing this thread got my attention a little since my Dad retired from 3M back in 2009 and he was working on these Littmann's... I had him look over this thread and here's what he had to say: We built the model 2000 which was completely a 3M design. New Ulm also built the model 3000 which was both 3M and B&O design. The model 4000 and 4100 were on the design table and prototypes being built when I retired. The 4000 and newer are completely built by B&O for 3M. I'm sure this won't

So it's well past time for an update here. After only a few months of waiting, a set of crossovers from a Penta III came up for sale on eBay. I took some time to think about it, and eventually I decided I would give them a try. I was warned that they may not sound correct, but I was sick of waiting, so I took the plunge. Plus the price was decent when compared to other things I was finding. While these are for sure an updated version of the crossovers from my Penta I's, the wiring was the

  • Re: How does this vintage turntable connection box work?

I'm not exactly even sure that is a phono pre-amp. If it was, it should have a grounding post on it. Unless it's meant to be a Beogram to RCA output style pre-amp. Either way, I'd suggest getting a nice aftermarket pre-amp, there are hundreds out there of all different price points, and then a connector like this to connect the phono pre-amp to the Beomaster. Stereo RCA to B&O Aux.

  • Re: Beolab Penta - Potential buy

I currently am working to bring back a set of Penta I's, and they are a great sounding speaker in my opinion. From what I understand, all Penta's have the RCA line input, and then a standard High Power input for bare speaker wire, and then either the speakerlink connector (Penta I's) or the Powerlink connector (Penta II and III). I could be wrong on that though. As Peter also said, a green screen means it's a Penta III. The Penta I and Penta II's had amber screens. As far as price

The 8 Track player is a Pioneer H-R99 that I bought back in 2002 :) That website might be one I'll have to visit. The foam pads are a real concern on most of my 8 Track carts, but I don't have a lot. A fun video featuring a very similar Pioneer H-R99 8 Track player was done not too long ago by Techmoan, his YouTube channel is a seriously fun watch. Always something interesting that he's playing around with. Watch the Techmoan vid here. Over the weekend, I did have the Pentas on for a

  • Re: Where are B&O going right now?

Where they go from here I'm afraid I don't have the answer to, but I fear if they keep developing products that appeal to such a limited market given the price they may not survive in their current business image. The reports of bad service and products being launched and then requiring numerous software updates don't help. The Beoplay range is of course doing well and this is good news.
It is, but as I've
Good discussion, with some very valid points. I've hung back from interjecting as I didn't want to steer the course of the poll - but it looks like two thirds of the total voters get a negative feeling. Not good. Will the Play brand eventually overshadow the 'main brand'? Was that the objective all along, where the forecasters and analysts could see where the future of AV was going? Has TV had its day as a main focal point of the home, where family gather
