  • Re: Beomaster 5500 with non B&O turntable

BM5500 has a built in RIAA amplifier. Should be fine by connecting the turntable either to PHONO-DIN or RCA inputs.

When you press PLAY button on Beogram 5500, the selected input on Beomaster should change to PHONO.

  • Re: Mmc or smmc

My 2 cents regarding FJS. I have sent a couple of SP14 and SP10 to Axel back then when he was still active. I was always satisfacted with his service and his communication. Apparently, FJS took over after Axel. He also retipped some of my SP14s and it pains me to say but communication with him is rather weird and akward. I always had a feeling of disinterest from his side. Half a year ago I purchased a MMC2 from him and everything was fine. I did however notice that the cantilever is a bit too long

Have a look into this topic: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/44703.aspx There are pictures on how the wiring of the DIN plug for a Beogram should look like.

Usually, DIN shield (circular metal connector) is used for earth. How does the DIN->Chinch adapter look like? Can you describe it a bit more?

  • Re: Beogram 4000c ... does this mean we can buy new cartridges?

I read on this forum that SMMC4 from SoundSmith is used for the 4000c turntable. Apparently, B&O no longer has the machinery/tooling needed to produce these cartridges. That's why I imagine they outsourced it.

  • Re: Beogram 3000 (5228) DIN Wiring

Just some feedback from my side regarding this topic in case someone else will experience similar problems. After doing some research I have found out that it is possible that a wire can tear/break inside the cable due to mechanical stress (e.g. pulling). I started cutting the cable and measuring whether I can get any continuity. After I cut off cca 25cm of the cable I was able to get continuty and I soldered the DIN plug back on and voila, the cable works and I get sound on both channels. The only

Also one more thing. I managed to find an old post of Dillen with instructions on how to safely take the DIN connector apart. I managed to remove the gray plastic cap from the plug and I managed to view the pins from the solder side. I nudged the transparent wire and it looks like it's still soldered to DIN pin 3. It's mysterious how come I'm not getting any continuity on this pin :/

@AllanDam, forgive me for hijacking your thread but I have a similar question and I don't want to spam with another thread. I'm in the process of soldering the original DIN cable back on my 1202. According to the service manual the wiring is the same as in 3000. I have tried testing for continuity between the DIN cable wires and the DIN pins. I managed to map the following: Cable BLACK = DIN 5 = Pickup RED Cable GROUND = DIN 2 = Pickup BLUE/GREEN Cable SHIELD = DIN outer shield = EARTH? So

  • Re: Beogram 1202 - Get new SP14 Stylus or explore alternative cartridge options? And general restoration!

I'd say it's not worth it. I would get an SP14/10 cartridge and get the stylus replaced. In audio terms the turntable is really not exceptional and it's kinda hard to setup correctly. And even still, you will probably go nuts when you'll spend 500EUR on an MMC adapter and an MMC cartridge only to still hear a faint hum from the motor through your loudspeakers.
