Hi all,
I have a pair of BL2500 plug to my Ouverture. For the one who have chance to compare BL2500 versus 4000 did you noticed a really big difference ?
Thanks for your feedback

Great Speakers, the Beolab 4000, and so many options to set them up: wall mount, floorstand, horiziontal table brackets, vertikal table brackets*

Yes, there is a difference.
It's more or less the size of the speaker, bigger is better.
But also the electronic sound path, the 4000 has a little bit better electronic parts and design...
Both can be upgraded, pretty easy the BL2500, the 4000 a little bit more material. Both sound superb after the upgrade.
How? Look and find it in the old archieved workbench forum... everything you need :)

//Bo.A long list...
Hi and thanks both of you but really I'm sure to breake my speakers if I try to do so...
I nerver modified any electronic device so...
Anyway thanks for this good link, perhaps one day I will make the jump... or change to a BLxxxx I will see.
Have nice day
If you have never modified any Electronics, then my advice would be: don't try.
My answer to your first question is: The 4000's sound much better than the 2500's.
I know the 4000's are supposedly active, in that they have two amps and an active crossover, but did the 2500s as well, or were they like the Pentas, amplified but using passive crossovers?
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
I have the Beolab 2500. My dealer told me the were active with electronic filters and separate amplifiers for each driver. They are quite heavy for their size, so I don't doubt him.
Still the sound is nothing to write home about, almost like a pair of computer desktop speakers. Which is not strange since the cabinets are almost completely made of plastic.
I've never owned the Beolab 4000, but I've listened to them numerous times. They sound more like a pair of real hifi speakers to me. Also, they look 100 times better IMHO.
Hello all,
To Robaer. Saying that the BL2500 is more or less than a computer speakers I would be curious which computer you have ! I agree with you those are not the best in class loudspeakers but :
1) Yes they are active speakers with dedicated class AB amplifiers for each "Bass/Medium" chanel and one for treeble
2) The power unit is very accurate (this explain the weight because of current transformer)
3) There is plastic and... plastic. Like for cars. In low cost brand there are plastic, in Aston Martin DB9 as well, but not the same. And not so sure the cabinet itself is plastic, it looks like much more metal because mine as a mark on corner if it was plastic it would be broken. To me is Zamac or if not Zamac at least a metal based of alloying elements.
I have a friend of mine who have "Cabasse" or "Triangle", "Kef" etc... speakers and sorry but ... no comment, mainly if we compare to the size !
Just to moderate a little on the sound quality of BL2500. I have beosound 9000 on Penta MK3 with Beolab 2 for bass, so I can also compare with a quite good configuration, and BL2500 are not that bad.
Cheers
BL4000's are in an other league, it's really better, even people with bad audition can confirm that. Then, BL17 are better than 4000, and then BL18's... Or BL20!! depending on the budget, you can upgrade with almost any Beolab, past or present (except BL4 or 6000)!

I've tested BL2500 vs BL6000 in the same setup. In my ears the BL2500 outperformed the BL6000. Better bass!
To mbee. Yes the budget THAT is the point otherwise... but with second hand you can get good items and till now no surprise with all I purchased.
To BO. I have One Ouverture that was plugged on one pair of BL6000 in one room and one Ouverture in bedroom with BL2500 (the one I would like to replace either by BL12 or BL3 see my post about BL12 sound quality). I don't know if it is because of the size of the room but I agree with you impressive how bass are deeper with the BL2500. More or equal to the 6000 on which I added finally a BL2... ABL component of the BL2500 does well its job... Now it is question of budget, the 4000 are cheaper versus the 3s....
Difficult to choose and the best is to be able to listen "on place" not only in shop...
