Hi All

Well I’m new  a new member to this site and i have a little issue with the bv 5 I’ve got my hands on? It was working when I collected it, but now I’ve got it home I have not got anything on the screen (not even where it asks for passcode), but I have got sound?

When I plug the tv in I get a red light in the dome, press tv it turns green but still no picture, I can rotate screen aswell?

Has anybody come across this issue previously?

many thanks

Luke

Hi Pat

i am getting nothing on screen, not even the option to enter the passcode?

When I play a dvd I’ve got sound but no picture?
do you think something has been disturbed/dislodge when it was moved?

many thanks

Hi Luke,

that’s possible but maybe the tv had some intermittent issue earlier which you haven’t noticed.

Do you hear a relais clicking when you switch on the BV5?

When all attemps don't work. Then take off the front frame (mind the ground lead). Remove the wooden board underneath the panel. You'll find a piece of black tape at the bottom of the screen. Behind that tape you will find the standby led from the panasonic panel. At least you are able to see whether the panel (partly) works.

Hi beobuddy

when the tv goes from standby to operational (red to green in the sensor dome) I do hear a clicking of a relay, as on a normal tv?

I have removed the bezel and ground wire, I have also removed the sound panel (broke a couple of clips if you know where to get these from??),

I have had a look under the tape and there looks to be an ir sensor and a led next to it, none of this is lit up or flashing???

many thanks

Luke

A small powersupply board in the middle of the cabinet has the relais on it. It swithces the power to the panel. With the led on the front of the panel, you should see something starting, blinking. If not then check the power leads coming from the powersupply board. Caution with the 230V you'll find there.

Hi Beobuddy

this is a little out of my comfort zone, I’ve got a very good friend coming round in the next couple of days that is going to try to find the issue?

Do you have any further suggestions on what could be causing the problem? It’s just if I have a list of things for him to try would be fantastic??

Once again
Many thanks

As far as I remember, a plasma screen should always be moved while standing up. You can lay it down for a short while - but during transport it is recommended that it is standing. It's because the inside of the screen is like a sandwich of very thin layers that could be damaged when touching each other, if the TV gets some bumps while laying down.

Hi Steffen

i wasn’t aware of this? It was laying down for just over an hour?

If the screen is damaged, surely it would show signs of damage?? I am getting nothing on the screen at all?

Many thanks

Hi beobuddy

Well we have got to the small power supply panel, the relay is clicking when you turn power on, everything seems ok but no picture or power to the screen?

We have tested the power coming out of the supply cable to the tv, which is ok?

Our next step would be to remove the screen????

Do you have any further information that could help??

Many thanks

Luke

There are 3 cables going to the plasma panel

-VGA

-Power

-Serial communication

Check if any of those have come loose in either end during transport.

I upgraded my BV5 with FHD LED TV.

You can read the thread here. It will show you step by step how to get the panel out if you want to inspect it further.

Take care - it is really heavy.
