Flatpanels

New television now shown at CES,

The G line is now called G1, and come in the same sizes 55/65/77"

It comes with a new brighter EVO panel, for HDR content

The C1 line now comes in a 83" also but nothing new in the panel, only a bit better processor.

So not much new other than the brighter panel, and that is seems that the design is the same, so B&O do not need to change the Harmony, Eclipse and Contour to fit the new panels.

You're assuming the new panel will match the design of the bottom fake panel under the sound center. And why on earth would someone swap a brand new 2020 GX for this panel? We're going mad if we're even debating this as an option. It's a relatively minor upgrade.

What is fake?

Why are we mad for discussing progress in manufacturing and sales of products? A more modern panel that is brighter and in production is easily more optimal to sell from all points of view. Well, I guess the X series are discounted as long as supplies last so it could mean some extra profit for B&O in the mean time.

Can’t see any reason not to be on a flow with a new panel if the form factor is even identical. And as I see it more and more B&O customers are very engaged in the technical aspects. Customers aren’t 80 year olds, it’s tech savvy 30-50 year old people mainly.

Update, just realized you thought I meant people would immediately swap the panel. I don’t see that as very probably. But it is -possible- especially when the screen might burn in or some such. Or course most people won’t update from the GX. But new sales with the new panel seem plausible and logical to me.

Michael:

What is fake?

The glass part underneath the Eclipse sound center which is designed to match the panel above, so it looks seamless?

And to add to this « quick adoption theory », I just tried to find a LG 65G9 from a TV store with brick and mortar shops here in France (opposed to online shops with clearance products) and it’s not available anywhere.

So even if B&O did want to continue selling GX panels with its TVs, I’m quite sure they won’t be able to do that due to EOL at LG.

Correct, they really dont have a choice.

The Eclipse V1 was special panels that B&O bought in stock, this is not the case anymore.

B&O has some supply arrangements with LG though, in the Netherlands the 48" CX is very hard to come by and still retails at the introduction list price (1.699). B&O dealers have a guaranteed number of panels and don't have the supply issues normal high street shops have with this panel.

They just talked about this in their webcast with the new financiel report.

With Contour they have secured a large amount of LG CX, directly from LG, so they could have a succesful launch.

The bought units will be sold out in the first half of this year though.

A special case that is not going to be repeated if everything goes as planned.

Why? It’s not custom at all. My eclipse v2 was sourced from both a super market and B&O from what I can tell from the shipping labels on the boxes.

There is no need to assume otherwise, it looks exactly the same, both the G1 and C1 compared to GX and CX.

And we are not talking about upgrading, but what the dealers are selling and it would be strange if it is not going to be the new panels, else every dealer had to buy panels for a year?

And about upgrading, it looks like a much bigger step from the GX to G1 than C7 to CX which many on the forum was talking about. That said I am not going to change, the picture in HDR is bright enough for me.

Oh the width of the glass? Well it’s pretty narrow on the gx. It it gets narrower then it won’t look perfect but it will probably not be visible if they don’t manage to eliminate the borders fully.

I am intending to buy 65" Eclipse 2, but am really in trouble with that new G1 arriving:

- Is it really a major upgrade (brighter)?

- What will it cost?

- When is it available?

If someone really knows...

Brighter, yes if we assume they are telling the truth, And I guess they do.

When is this relevant, when you see HDR content only. Is the current gen. plenty bright, yes IMO.

Cost, your guess is as good as mine, but same price the GX was in summer 2020.

First units maybe in late May/June, for full price.

November Black Friday, may be the first price adjustment.

If 2021 is as every other year.

Thanks a lot for this interesting comment, Emil.

My current consumption is "standard TV" from my Digibox: motor racing, musical shows, ...

I make the conclusion that it is not worth waiting. However, with delivery issues on electronics market, I do not know when my 65" could be delivered...

Have a nice day

I have a GX eclipse and I feel the screen is much dimmer than the Avant it replaces. Especially in daylight. It can be run brighter but mainly looks good in evenings. So I get that a brighter panel can be better.

I think the cost will be the same. If you can wait then just wait. No reason not to.

Does anyone know what LG panels / sizes are available for horizon, eclipse and contour? And which of them may see a 2021 upgrade based on what we’ve seen at ces? Are all three “upgradeable” and can they even upgrade in size?

Hallo Michael,

If you take the ISF picture mode, the brightness will only be improved in HDR, and an example of that would be in Harry Potter a Light from a light pole would be brighter not the picture overall.

The screen shows the correct colors and here brightness cannot go up and down as you please.

But there is a Day/night ISF setting to compensate for this. I always have it in ISF Dark.

Your OLED can have a brighter picture than your AVANT, just choose another picture mode, the picture however will not be correct.

But if that make it possible for you to see in daylight it could be a good trade off.

So no details of measurements have been said,

But I see no reason why not all 3 model series can use the new panels.

It is only the Harmony that can use 3 sizes 65/77/88

As the new 83" is going to be a C series, I do not think Harmony will adopt this size.

Does someone know if they will really use G1 for Harmony or Eclipse 55/65/77? My dealer told me that B&O will just integrate an updated GX version, not the G1 Evo.

We do not know the exact measurements yet.

But there will not be an updated GX panel, or there will and it is called G1

I would be surprised if they do not use the G1.
