Over time....

Can mean over a very long time in B&O land

How long has the Balance been waiting for NL or some equivalent?

Hiort’s rumor would be quite exciting and he’s not a stranger to this board. What he heard is that it may be possible to connect balance & level as speakers to beovisions. Basically surround a la sonos. quite game changing if true...

FYI:

The Balance accepts DLNA streaming (best way to try is the Brio app from Orastream)

Price potentially acquired.

Cena bez DPH” = Price without VAT. This is for Part Number “1200497” with the wood, so presumably the fabric version will be cheaper?

35 247.27 CZK to USD = 1,642 USD.

Not too bad I say!

The rumors I hear is that it will include functionality like Balance, and over time be able to act as a regular speaker.

I’ll still have to see it/learn more about it, before I believe, that it is more than a BT speaker.

However, if it is - that could be interesting!

And then maybe the update of the Balance was kept waiting, untill it has become a ‘mate’ to play with.

This talking of a ‘new platform’ still is very mysterious.

C'mon guys, learn your product history:

It's a wooden Networklink Passive! Big Smile

It just looks like one half of the BV Harmony sound centre. I suppose it’s one way to save money - sorry - to leverage their design investment elsewhere in the product range.

I wonder what the drive unit configuration will be.

I like the idea of being able to place it in so many different positions.

Interesting to see orastream. Is it in fact a dlna server that is compatible with the b&o app? Is the brio app free as long as i only use it in home network? What’s your overall experience with it vs plex?

You're right (for the moment) it is free.

My main experience is DLNA streaming to the Balance, the Neil Young Archive and the HDtracks.com apps  (which both use Orastream)

Note: you can also DLNA stream to the Core, the Essence mkII, the A6, A9, Harmony, Eclipse, BS35, the M3 and M5, the Moment. DLNA stream to one B&o device and multiroom the experiento to the other B&o devices (until now I didn't find a way to combine the Balance with the other devices though).

Brio itself isn't a DLNA server. It can index collections from the local HDD's and the Brio Cloud. What makes it differentiate from the rest is the way it can switch formats from MP3 to Hires depending on the bandwith available for your player. For example you listen to 24b 192kHz at home and to 16b 44,1kHz when mobile for the same song in the Brio cloud.

And now back to the original topic?

I actually really like the design! It looks like a modern version of the old Beosound 1. If the integration works well and the price is right, I think there is a lot of potential, especially as it looks like a quality product with minimal use of plastics.
