is it possible to use a pair of beosounds 2 as dedicated left and right speaker in stereo setting? Has anyone done this? Beososund 2 is after all is full 3 way speaker and should be much more dynamic than say beolab 17.

No, you can't.

Through the BeoLiving Intelligence you can pair them in a master-slave way(i.e. you control only the master BS2, and the slave always mirrors the master). You can mix and match any BeoSound you may have this way.

Since the BS2 has a line in, you could conceivably run only the right channel wire to BS2(1) and the left channel wire to BS2(2).  People have talked about doing this with the A9.

To me, I think it's sort of possible, but it doesn't make sense.

First, there will be an idle driver in each BS2.  The BS2 has 4 drivers:  a tweeter, a woofer and two mid-range drivers where one handles the left and the other handles the right channel (each pointed to the right or left).  With the side pointing orientation of these mid-range speakers, you will always be listening way off axis (although, since the tweeter and woofer are "omni-directional", I suppose you could turn the BS2 sideways so the active mid-range is pointing toward you).  Of course, this wouldn't work with any of the in-built sources (again, I suppose if they're turned sideways maybe you could get a reasonable stereo image, not sure how the other channel bouncing off the back wall might interfere).

Second, very smart people have optimized its design to support a specific use case (single point audio).  If you want stereo speakers buy stereo speakers.
