Hi - I have an BS5/BM combination which was working fine until the other day when it stopped playing through my speakers (a couple of Beolab 8000s and a 4000) connected through the powerlink cable.

The BM is also connected to a poweramp through the audio output jack which works fine. Likewise the speaker I have connected through the masterlink cable also works fine.

The strange thing is that if I fiddle with the left/right/line switch on the back of the Beolabs I get sound for a few seconds and then it stops and the speaker switches off so some signal is obviously getting through. That makes it feel like a speaker issue rather than a BM one. But all three speakers at the same time?!?

Any ideas?

I have of course done the turn it off and turn it on again thing... several times...

Thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon,

Welcome to Beoworld!  Sorry to hear that you are having problems.  Here are some suggestions to help you narrow down the fault:-

1) If you unplug the cable to the power amp, do the Beolab speakers work?

2) If you plug in just one Beolab speaker at a time, does it work then?  Can you get all speakers working if they are the only one connected?

3) Does changing the Powerlink cable help (ie. when connecting just one speaker)?

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Thanks Steve - tried all that - unplugging everything, leaving just the powerlink cables in, different cables (which must be OK since you made them :-) and rebooting. Nothing...

I'll try powering it down overnight in case its an overheating issue, but if that fails I guess its time to replace :-(

Jon

Hi Jon,

The cables were tested before shipping so they should all be OK.  Are all the speakers affected please, or just one speaker?

Kind regards, Steve.

Very confident its not the cables. Tried a few now. Likewise tried four different speakers with them being the only thing plugged in. Still nothing.

I guess its the sound card thing in the unit... ho hum. Any idea how much one of those costs or indeed where to get one from?

Or I could just everything through the power amp...

Thanks,

Jon
