Hey,

Thread about M70 began here: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/34886.aspx  . To not mix in threads I decided to put it here.

I bought my Beovox M70 , I did not expect much from the state though they played nice. After buying and the first hours in the house spent listening, I decided to look at them more. They are from one pair (matching serial numbers)

The boxes are not damaged :

Speakers and suspensions look good without abrasions, dents and holes in the paper:

The grilles are whole and not broken, although they have small abrasions on one:

and inside....

Crossovers - no repairs, no visible signs of damage, both the same:

SEAS woofers looks like new, with no problem with terminals:

The same with Peerless uniphase - without problem with magnets.

Now, after these few photos I have questions:

- whether recap is necessary in crossovers ??

- is there any canvas that was covered with grills M70 ?? I only have a new stretchy acoustic material, in Infinity it looked like the original but here it is different and I do not know what the final effect will be.

- whether the acoustic parameters of the box do not change after the insertion of modern cable terminals with latches or screws?

- how to mount the grills, now they are fastened with self-adhesive Velcro, but you can see it and it is not perfect ??

Thanks.

In addition to the sound and appearance, there is one more important reason for the renovation.

M70 in the living room gave an unpleasant odor in the air. Confusion of the old basement with the composition of waste paper. Like a warehouse with old, damaged books.

To eliminate it, I had to replace the filling, vacuum the inside of the boxes, change the material for the grill, beeswax gave the whole a pleasant natural aroma.

I compared a recapped set of both M70s and M75s for a month. I liked the build of the M75s but I preferred the sound of the M70s better.

I have meanwhile listened to many B&O speakers and the M75 is my favorite. Sensational speaker without a weakness. Built for bass, they really excel in mids and highs. Haven't heard M70s, though. Still, I have a hard time imagining that they can be better. The top of the line Beovoxes from that time were all not that different in sound, but M75s/M100s have a distinguished reputation. In my view the best sounding B&O speakers below Beolab 50/90/5.

I wouldn't recap M75s by the way if they are still working. You will invest money and chances are that sound will deteriorate. If they show clearly audible signs of wear, that's a different story. Not sure how usual that is, though.

Cheers

I have never listed to M75's but I do have a pair of M100's and M70's. To my ear the M70's sound better. The base is much tighter on the M70's. I also prefer the look of the 70's on their tulip stands.

A month after the renovation of the veneer, there were no gloss spots. Probably the wax came quite into the wood. After re-applying the wax, the gloss stays on the whole surface for another month without any changes or discoloration.

Hi,

I use teck oil on all my B&O woodwork. That gives a factory-like satin appearance, very nice.

I use steel wool before oiling.

I may have 2 unless I lost them when I moved house last year.  I will look in the garage this weekend.

Did you check the kidney glomerular filtration rate, I may be interested in an exchange as my kidneys are nearly 70 years old
