Bang & Olufsen Copenhagen is offering the Eclipse with a 25% discount on Black Friday. Feels kinda stupid towards us that just bought it for full price.

It may be a measure of just how much they're overcharging for it!

And how desperate they are to move product. The reason the Friday after Thanksgiving acquired the name "Black Friday" is because for many stores, that marked the day their ledgers went from being in the red (losing money) to being in the black (making a profit). The time from Black Friday to Christmas is when many stores and companies actually make the lions share of their profits, if not all, for the year. Which always, to me, painted a pretty dour picture of what it was like to actually run a shop. 11 months of looking at depressing sales and revenue numbers followed by an absolute frenzy of trying to sell in a month, desperately aware that if you don't turn a huge amount of sales and make money then you're probably doomed. I sure wasn't sad when, in my very early work life, I left retail.

You are spot on. All engineers that worked on Eclipse and BeoLab50 has left the company. They where all laid off between may and October 2017. The company has no engineering left (only the aluminium factory that rumors say is for sale). In future the functions left will be design, purchasing, sourcing and some support functions left. Rest is RIP.

The future vision of B&O management is to run the business as a Beoplay business unit. That means all engineering in the future will happen at subcontractors in China and production will be handled by Chinese controlled Thyphany factory in Czech.

I will not buy B&O anymore because of this decission - I don't want a LG TV with a chinese speaker box attached. I think I would be better off with a LG TV with an LG soundbar. At least you know the two parts will be compatible.

I think BeoLab 90 and 50 are the last real Danish B&O icons.

I have some questions about the tv,

When you use it as an audio player, does it turn of the screen, or in a screen saver position?

I am here thinking about deezer and tune-in.

Does mybuttons Work yet?

Does dolby vision Work from Apple when connected to the soundcenter?

The screen goes black. But when you change the volume or source the screen will shown that information.

Mybuttons does not work yet.

DV works but only under 30 HZ at the moment.

I have close relations to Struer and many of the ex employees. It's no secret, all of it has been in Danish news in fragments.

Some of the Sound engineers are still there, but as I understand it, some of those jobs will eventual also move to Chinese company Thymphany.

Question left is: What is the characteristic of a B&O product ?

Does you as a customer expect that it is more or less now a trading company, where engineering/development is Chinese and manufacturing is in eastern Europe ?

To compare, I would also not buy Scandinavian furniture made in China. Would you ? - It's not really right

On the other hand, you can argue that BeoPlay has so much succes that it is the way to go ...

I don't know .. what's your opinion ?

I can confirm the info from Meliora.

A consequence is also that the integration with the old ML is soon to be lost (the NL/ML converter is already in the history books, no replacement). The connection and interaction will be via "native" apps on your phone such as Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify etc to stream music - both locally and to multi-rooms - in the not to distant future. The good thing is that you can mix any Spotify Connect or AirPlay 2 compatible product with the B&O gear - you do not need to go all-in on B&O. But....and there is a big but.... B&O as we know it is more or less about to change drastically seen from a BeoWorlders point of view.

And as Meliora points out - the success of BeoPlay indicates that this is what the market wants.

The strategy makes sense, IMHO, for a BeoSound 2 - not so much for a BeoVision, which should be the heart and brain of my home network. But, not anymore.

For the shareholders?, then absolutely. Unfortunately to stay in business they are willing to kill the B&O brand and all it stood for.

Question - if true B&O products do not stand alongside, behind and above BeoPlay to give the lesser brand some gravitas, where will Beoplay be in a few years?

The discount is only supposed to be on BeoPlay products. 25% off an Eclipse would reduce the 55” by over £1600, bringing down to under £6900. Becomes tempting-ish at that price.

B&O København is offering 25% off on the Eclipse today?

They get 12.5% covered by Struer on the H4 and A9 and 15% on the A2 Active, the remaining 12.5% or 10% is covered by the store. That's it. They may sell the Eclipse with 25% off, but it looks like a loss of close to 9.000 kroner (inkl vat/mva/moms) per unit or €1.000. If they do this - run and get it if you fancy the Eclipse!

This is their homepage with the BF offers - from what I can tell, you can buy the Eclipse at full price but get a 60 month no-payment period at no cost.

That's right.

Got respons from B&O, and they say regarding Moment connecting to Eclipse.
At the moment you can stream Deezer or other music via the Bang & Olufsen app.

Anyone who can explain why Bang & Olufsen has chosen to put a small washer below one screw at each bracket that holding the screen on Beovision Eclipse.
Is it because the bracket are wrongly designed with to little tilt or is there deeper explanation for this. They did not put these washer in their training videos.
Just curious, seems like an unusual doing to me.

But now this blind test by the nerd militia at AVForums, and it paints the C7 panel which I believe is unmodified in the Eclipse, in the worst possible way.

https://www.avforums.com/news/philips-9002-oled-tv-wins-blind-shootout.14195

After vowing to never buy another BV (too expensive for such rapidly changing technology), I "accidentally" wandered into my local B&O store, and guess who's now thinking about buying an Eclipse?

To continue on this path requires more due diligence so I actually read the above link and some of the comments from people who actually participated in the test.

My take away is quite different:  The LG (as well as Sony and Panny) performed poorly relative to Phillips when set to "Vivid" mode.  Who uses "Vivid" mode?  That's the first thing you turn off when you get a new TV so who cares?  Phillips appears to care since they sponsored the test.  Hmm...  Whistle

The other test with a "calibrated" picture showed that it was hard to tell the difference between the Sony, LG, Panny and Phillips.  Phillips did win, but not by much (33% vs 22% (LG), no preference scored 21% while Sony (16%) and Panny (8%)) rounded out the field.

Bottom line:  Not much difference in a relevant test scenario, big difference in an irrelevant test scenario.

Didn't really understand the purpose of the test other than for Philips to show that, in a particular mode, their TV was best!

In the calibrated test all were equally equally poor at motion processing demonstrating that some picture processing is required to achieve an acceptable picture, in the vivid test it sounded almost like Philips won by not being quite so vivid as the others!Confused

No attempt at setting up the best possible, watchable picture on each set and then comparing those, including common issues like upscaling SD etc.

Just another opinion. I am a proud pre owner of a Beovision Eclipse 55”. And despite all the pro and cons mentioned in this thread I loved it at first sight (one should really see and experience it live).

B&O has always stand out (for me) by simple but unique and exclusive outlook and desgin, quality in sound and picture, easy to connect other beautifull B&O products and the all-in-one BeoRemote. And with the Eclipse I will get this again. Maybe not the best in all technical specs but still very very good. And fully integrated with all the latest music streaming services, good smart TV platform etc.

Btw it is a shame that B&O has admitted Netflix and Amazon to get a tailored button on the remote. They probably received a big sponsor fee for that. But no worries, B&O still offers the remote without these buttons and it is easy to require this one from your dealer instead of the standard “sponsored” remote.

And last but not least regarding the price which has been mentioned a lot. Yes it is not cheap. But  there is an advantage with B&O TV compared to other brands. A Beovision remains its value for a long time. I turned in my BV11-46” for the new Eclipse and my dealer gave me good value for my just five years old BV11.

Begin of December will be my moment.

My understanding is that if you don't put the Netflix button on the remote, you can't use the Netflix app as a native app in your television. Not sure about Amazon but it's probably similar. I think B&O left the Netflix button off a set recently and Netflix pulled their rights to have the app, so the app disappeared. Can't recall if this was the Avant or BV14, but the end result was they sold an allegedly 4k set, and when the app disappeared told dealers to give the customer a free Apple TV if they complained about it, but the version of Apple TV then didn't have 4k, and a lot of customers were pretty upset about having no 4k source available. They had 4k Netflix on the set, then suddenly they didn't and B&O's fix was a non-4K option.

Yes, its a question of ensuring "certified for Netflix" status. Netflix have mandated certain requirements to gain this status, and once a manufacturer has achieved this on a specific TV set, i think the idea is that Netflix will be supported going forward.  They have strong armed manufacturers into putting the button on the remote, in all its ugliness (IMHO), as part of this process.

Thats the general idea - whether that certification lasts for ever, or at least a long time, goodness knows.

And yes, it was the newer  Android based BV's that had Netflix pulled.

(aside - do the newer Loewe Bild's have Netflix properly supported? Read recent article saying it was only Netflix HD, and no HDR......in which case....)

Below is the list of Netflix requirements (deep breath, another heavy handed tech company)

https://devices.netflix.com/en/recommendedtv/2017/

My presumption is that, given the Eclipse is large part LG, it should be absolutely fine native Netflix wise going forward.

Regarding the washers - this is the memo B&O circulated to their dealers/installers:

Washer must be mounted!

To improve the straightness of the BeoVision Eclipse, two washers must be mounted between the TV brackets and the SoundCenter, see illustration. The two washers will be sent in a small plastic bag together with an instruction. The bag can be found in the same cardboard box as the BeoRemote One.

This is a temporary solution and is not part of the installation video or guide. A long term solution will be implemented as soon as possible.

Mount a washer under each bracket:

Having had the eclipse since end of September I have to say the TV performance is excellent. But that’s because it’s an LG panel with no processing. Picture quality is outstanding.

Unfortunately everything connected with B&O is either satisfactory or below par. The final nail is no functionality of the NL/ML converter. Beosound 4 is now hard wired to the eclipse and is a manually controlled device. There is no plan to incorporate this in the future.

4K 60HZ will eventually work with Apple TV 4K and other 3rd party devices such as Panasonic 4k blu Ray player. What a shame this wasn’t resolved prior to release. Other flaws become apparent as you will see.

Disappointing.

Wait! Are you saying that my NL/ML Converter will never function with the Eclipse? Thats a deal breaker for me, sorry.
All this talk about firing and closing down makes me want a Beovision even more. At least before its to late.
But with Android trouble and no NL/ML on Eeclipse i am looking more into the 11.....

Just now I also have my BS9000 hardwired through the NL/ML converter and have already had a very long conversation to my B&O dealer after realizing that this setup did not work much more than 20% when connected to Eclipse, even after spending a fortune keeping the BS9000 “alive”

Very, very disappointing that B&O let their old costumer down in this way. NL/ML converter is now discontinued.

Sound is great in the Eclipse and picture is also if you can live with the flaw of OLED like pink in left and right side on a white screen, banding in the dark and other issues, but more about this in AVS forum, OLED uniformity issues.

It is simply not enough for this price that sound and picture is good in a Beovision, I choose this setup over the Loewe/Almando to keep all the functionalety and integration B&O have been well known for, now I’m as far as possible from Bang & Olufsen’s old philosophy “one push at one button” it’s more like ten push at different buttons on different units even in different options.

If they not keep up doing something about this NL/ML converter / Eclipse, this is our final buying of Bang & Olufsen equipment in the future.

partly true.......a BLC can still be connected to other NL products and therefor the connection with older product is still intact. So I can start my BS9000 as source of an Essence and JOIN the Eclipse.

Or Start the BS7000 record player connected at a BLC and JOIN the Eclipse (all done with the app).

so if you can't buy it new anymore, find a secondhand one.

If people like myself are the cavalry then you are part of the B&O bashers....at least the cavalry are trying to promote positiveness and make the forum a conducive place to discuss the brand and attract new members. When a Eclipse owner says something positive about the TV they get rubbished and of course when someone says something negative the bashers are delighted. Its a lose lose situation. Only reason I am still on this forum is because there is such a wealth of knowledge otherwise I would have left long time ago.
