Hi all

I'm looking to get my rather old but still well functioning Avant 32" DVD replaced with a preloved BV 7-40.

I'm targeting a mk5 or mk6 but I haven't been able to track what the differences between the two are, so maybe someone can help? Is the mk6 superior or are they almost equal in picture-performance etc? Mk5 is easier to find at he moment.

Another thing is the firmware/software - what is the latest release? Just so this can be checked and if neccessary a updated to the newest before delivery....

Last but not least - how does the 7-40 compare to the new Avant picture-wise (sound-wise I suppose the 7 still have the upperhand?). A 55" is too big for my living room, but it would be nice to know that the 7 isn't too outdated :-)

Thanks in advance!

Lars

Hi Lars,

BV 7-40 supports 3D and there are some minor improvements (faster Bluray Player, USB connection).

Latest software is Build 1112.

Soundwise BV 7 (or BV 4/9) is still the best TV you can get (BL 7.2 or with additional Beolabs BL 7.4 or BL 10 in a surround setup).

And don't forget masterlink, for me a fundamental feature of BV 7, no more available in BV 11 and Avant.

The new Avant is so competitively priced against BV7 Mark 5 and Mark 6 models that your decision will be a difficult one. Benefits of the BV7 are as mentioned above; sound particularly, inclusion of a Blu-ray player and 3D if wanted. Unless the BV7s come down in price in the next few months I would imagine that most new buyers would go the Avant route to have the latest technology and offering from the brand. Of course this is just an assumption on my part but a view that was also held by a local AD I was chatting with yesterday.

You do mention that it is a second-hand BV7 you want so no, I don't think the technology is outdated for the later models, but would you still buy it if you could buy an 55" Avant or even a BV11 if those prices drop too? That's the ultimate question. I have owned a Mark 3 BV7 before and it was a great tv. I sold after a couple of years and am looking to buy again now. I am keeping an eye on the second-hand market too, but I'll only go that route if prices drop significantly. Otherwise it will probably be between the Avant or the BV11-46 I think. All the best.

Yes the pricing on the new Avant is attractive, however with Avant, stand and Blu-ray player you are knocking at approx. DKK 68000 (€9100) or higher.

At the moment a 2012 BV 7-40 mk5 from 2012 can be aquired for approx. DKK 39000 (€5200), price from new was DKK 96000 (€12800) or something in that range. If this is a good price compared to the Avant I don't know, but I suppose it can be negotiated lower with the new Avant in mind.

I don't know why, but the BV7 design seems more appealing to me than the BV11. As mentioned the size is a factor as I'm sitting approx. 2 meters from the screen and 55" seems to an overkill with that in mind :-)

If you sit only 2 meters away, watching to a 55 inches screen in SD quality is not much fun. And so many channels and programmes are still only in SD quality.

Therefore I bought a BV 7-40 Mk 6 two years ago and not a BV 7-55 (my viewing distance is 2,5 meters).

@The_Beonic_Man - "...Benefits of the BV7 are as mentioned above; sound particularly..."

Are you sure about that - I am not!

@larsw - I think you should be lucky if you find a BV7-40 MKV for 39000 DKK !

@Räuber - in Denmark there are not many SD channels left (so if larsw is located in DK, that should be no problem).

@Millemissen - Yes located in DK, so there's a lot of HD channels to chose from. I suppose a price of DKK 39000 is a reasonable price then? Haven't visited the dealer yet - chose to seek some information before spoiling myself.....

Soundwise the BV7 will be a parts of a setup with BL8000,BL6000 and BL2, so I plan to go for the BL7.4 for the TV (there's an option to choose between speakers) - I hope that the BV7 will perform well in this environment...

Hi Millemissen,

Yes, I definitely think the BV7 sound systems outperform the new Avant! Especially if with a 7-1/7-2 speaker. Even with the 7-4 as pat of a surround setup which is what the OP is wanting to do. All the best...

I agree with Millemissen that finding a BV7 Mark 5 for that low price would be near impossible to find! If you could, send me the link and I'll join you!

Last week a dealer sold a BV 7-40 Mk 6 on Ebay for 4.760 EUR, a real bargain!

If that is what he wants, he just needs a little patience.

There will be many BV7's for sale in the future 📺
