Hi all,

I have an issue with the stereo image in the above mentioned setup and I am trying to figure out if it is a problem with my core or my Beolab 18’s.

My Beolab 18’s are connected to the Core via Powerlink shielded Cat7 cable (from B&O)

I have checked that my Beolab 18’s are configured correctly left and right respectively, by setting the switch on the Beolab 18 in the L&R position.

I have chosen some tracks where some vocal’s or similar are panned all the way to the right channel and I cannot hear them on my BL18. The speakers are playing, so something tells me that both the right and left speaker are playing the left channel.

I have chosen same tracks from Deezer on my Beolab 50 connected to Harmony, and the stereo image is perfect. The same goes for my Beosound 35, etc. etc.

In order to eliminate a cable problem, I have connected the Beolab 18’s to the core with new cables and it did not help.

I have also switched the L&R position on the BL18 speakers. Herby, the left speaker should play the right channel and visa versa. I still cannot hear the right channel in any of the speakers, so something tells me it is a problem with the core.

I have also made a factory reset on both the Core and the BL18 and it did not help.

The obvious thing to check is to connect my core to my BL50’s but that is difficult as everything is build into a fixed installation.

Are other facing same issue with their core or BL18?

How are the BL18 connected?

Did you use a PL splitter?

The speakers are normally connected to core via an original B&O powerlink splitter.

I have already checked if the splitter caused the issues. I connect the Left Speaker to the Core directly and then I connected the Right speaker to the Left Speaker with a powerlink cable. I used new cables to elimate a cable issue

One thing you could check is if the cat cables have the same colour coded termination one both ends.

I’m not sure I understand. I guess there is only one way to assemble the cables and the RJ45.

This was made by an electrician and all cat7 cables were tested.

I have switched cables and I had same result.

If I am not mistaken, a power link cable is wired same way as a Lan cable used in network’s. Is that a misunderstanding?

Anyway, the installer wired and tested all cables.

Which source did you play? Did you try another?

I have only tried with the same Deezer tracks on the BL18 and BL50.
Everything worked fine on the BL50’s.

One of my Essence boxes had a RJ45 Powerlink socket with a loose connection to the right channel. My solution was to try a different brand of Powerlink/Ethernet cable, as the RJ45 plugs can vary minutely in size. A slightly bigger RJ45 plug successfully made contact across all pins.

I suppose that if you were minded to try it, you might disconnect all cables from the Core and using a wooden toothpick try to gently tease the prongs in the RJ45 Powerlink socket downward very slightly, to improve the physical connection. It might even be obvious to the eye which pin is not properly making contact.

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have tried it w/o any luck.

I have again tried to switch the speaker switches so my left speaker is set to right and right speaker is set to left.
I do not here the “right” channel which tells me something is wrong in the core.

I have now tried to AirPlay to the core and I have the same result.
Both BL18 are playing the left channel only. Changing the dip L/R dip switches on the speakers does not change anything. They continue to play left channel only

If someone has time please airplay this to your core and let me know if you hear the right channel.

Thank you very much. I am disappointed why B&O have not sent out an announcement regarding this, or did I miss this? This is not a standard bug from an audio company. It is embarrassing they have damaged the stereo perspective in an update w/o having heard this while testing.
Anyway, I will look forward to the update.
Thanks again.
