Who besides you think Apple is an AUDIO and VIDEO brand?!?! As in A/V? Come on!

It's a media brand, I'll give you that, but not Audio / Video!!! They don't manufacture speakers/amps/receivers/actual TV's etc...

Apple is as much AV as B&O are a computer manufacturer.

YOU are strange because you spend you time to compare them.

There is no comparison possible, THAT'S ALL.

Again, it is a mess in your brain, A/V is A/V, computer is computer.

I don't compare them. Show me where I compared them?

You seem to be doing the comparisons.

And you seem to be a TROLL imho.

you are blind too

functionality, design, build quality, prices, reliability ...

A lot of people on this forum are tired to read this.

You can think the contrary if it makes feel you better with all your Apple's friends.

But that's reality !

I like to read your remarks or criticism but it isn't manadatory to use Apple as an example.

Yup.

About the future. One thing I'm sure Tue Mantoni has noticed is how different B&O is from running Triumph.

Triumph is perhaps the second best known motorcycle after Harley Davidson, and turning them around was probably much different than the attempt at turning B&O around.

B&O unfortunately don't have this marvelous world wide second position.

Face it , the only big design success he's over seen is the BV11 which is basically still a david lewis design , everything since has been utterly awful. That playmaker for example..

They desperately need a designer with focus and talent along the lines of Jony Ive - there must be loads of them pouring out of art colleges these days..mustn't there !?

The best they can come up with is a radio that looks like an old lunch box , an ipad stand that doesn't stand up and a speaker that resembles a bass drum on wooden stumps...

They are lacking a good road map, that's for sure.

When I bought and paid my BV10, (a month in advance before I took delivery as I was on a trip) I was happy, looking forward to getting a full-hd TV.

Same day as it was installed, I got utterly disappointed! No source data!!!

It fu*cked up my previous setup. I can not enjoy the SPDIF input on my BL5's as they won't listen to it if connected to the BV10. So no more surround sound for me.

Why dump this little thing? Who would have thought. B&O always did a good job back in the days to be 100% backward compatible.

A proper product roadmap would help this company a lot. The products output of late looks like a mixed salad. This can't be good. They've lost me as it stands now.

No cure for my situation of source data. Shouldn't this be possible to correct with software?

IMHO B&O have lost focus on producing consistent high levels of quality.

The lack of backwards compatibility is concerning - in this day there should be no excuses - electronics is cheap, manufacturing is highly automated and has high levels of quality, etc etc

They need to get their uncompromising focus back.

Again I use the analogy of cars - most cars will get you from a to b, but the very good ones still sell well. Now why is that?

The whole "quirky euro" brand of B&O is under attack from decent cheaper products and wider knowledge of B&Os faults ( and greater scrutiny ) via the internet. The last thing they want their customers to do is be embarassed spending big dollars on stuff that can be performed almost as well by kit at 1/10th the cost.

After having read the article and seeing the new CEO is from McKinsey, B&O is doomed.  All these McKinsey guys know are: "short-term results and don't worry about the long term because in the long run we are all dead."  Opening a bunch of stores selling cheap stuff, so much for being a high-end luxury brand.

Short term = selling cheap stuff for fast profit, Long term = brand is done for selling cheap stuff.  But I am sure some nice bonus for fast short term profit.

???

I would beg to differ.

My dealer in Espoo gives me somewhat of a good service. I've emailed B&O directly a few times, and the response I've gotten was something of shushing away a beggar.

OK, so you'd think, perhaps I was complaining about a battery in an old Beocom 6000?

Nope.

I was complaining about my Beolab 5's not working with the syncro cable.

All I got was your BL5's are a too early model to support it.

-Hello!

There's an input for it in the speakers, the syncro cable is explained in both of my manuals that I got with the speakers.

Another example of a lazy obnoxious company. They put out a speaker on the market that wasn't ready (obviously) As some of it's announced features didn't work yet.

I told them they had done false marketing, and asked them to correct this on my speakers.

The email exchange stopped there.

So bno refused to sort out a problem their incompetence and lack of forward thinking created on a pair of reference speakers costing a small fortune and weighing a ton ?

that must be the continued friendly dialogue that tue mentioned in the article. There's another word for it , bulls&@£.

Customer service is paramount in the world of consumer electronics something stupid apple and its stupid customers take for granted. That's why it wins so many service awards. Seen bno win one recently ?

Nope.

I would understand if my speaker (obviously out of warranty) would have developed a technical problem, but there's never been say a mk1 BL5 that would not have supported the Syncro and third party use of equipment. There's always been one official line from B&O, and that's one of YES! You can connect your BL5's to third part equipment.

Well, it's still possible for me, but I have to keep my Beosound 9000 connected as it controls the BL5's. So it's a work around.

IMHO, if B&O was brought to court over my problem, they would loose. This is a mayor feature of the speakers, they simply didn't bother to put in the early models.

If someone from B&O reads this thread, feel free to contact me, and sort out my problem. andreasATsurfnetDOTfi.

5 bucks on that they won't contact me though. Excellent customer service and all....

I hope they make a Beoplay product to compete on the "Bose market" A Beosystem where you can use any TV/Screen/Projector (since they get obsolete so fast)
- Built in Airplay, DNLA, Bluetooth to be controlled with BEO remotes as well as Apps for iOS and Android,
- Built in Surround decoder of course.
- Network connected for easy updates and also cloud and NAS access.
- Compatible with Masterlink
- STB controller to control all the periferals such as Playstations, Blu-ray players and Apple TV...

Pack it in a Jacob Jensen or David Lewis feel and look, and give it a reasonable price and I will be the first to buy it..

And I'll be next in line. This is exactly what I'm looking for too. I would like it if it matched my stack system, but that's probably just me.

While I'm thinking about it, doesn't it seem B&O lacks a visual signature? Other than the ALT on their speakers, and the new iconic design of the BV10 and BV11, there does not appear to be a unified look to the recent products. Would it have killed them to put some aluminum on the Playmaker? I hope any new products start or continue a common design theme.

Of course DMacri any new stuff can not continue a common design theme because they are made by different designers which are not specially qualified in electronics. All these new designers scretch usually furnitures ! Bang & Olufsen need only one real talented designer like Jacobsen and Lewis.

I think from a design point of view they still make great products. Beoplay line being a bit odd but modern ( I personally am not very impressed about the Beoplay TV's design, but just like BMW when they hired Chris Bangle, it was a bold decision to go somewhere different than before)

The choice of materials are still in most cases impressive, fx the Beovision 11 and the new speakers gives a feel of quality at least I haven't seen anywhere else. Absolute top class!

What really worries me though is the lack of software knowledge and usability. I think they really need to re-invent the feel of back in the 70s and 80s when I think they were market leaders in intuitive user interfaces. Fortunately for B&O, Samsung, Sony, Loewe struggles with making modern user interfaces. ( its like everybody is waiting for Apple to take the lead)

I am surprised how badly written the software is for the Beolit 12 for instance..

If they could make a Beocenter like I described earlier, with a software that makes it compatible and up to date with products of the 21st century where we use iTunes, Spotify, Youtube alongside with the physical media we still use…I think they have a winner.

Its not rocket science. Just invest in the software development, make it modular, and pack it in some sleek aluminum, and B&O will have a winner! :)
