Hi Everyone,

I would like to share with you info about little project I worked on and finished recently.

I call it BeoModern. It seamlessly integrates with any datalink-capable B&O audio amplifier and offers mp3/flac player, internet and DAB radio, Bluetooth and more.

Hopefully, technical details could be of some value to someone.

Cheers,
Henryk

Incredible!!

By far the coolest DIY B&O Style Integration I have ever seen.

Does it talk to the B&O App as well?

Great job.

OMG - that is seriously cool - it is the very product I wanted - i just wanted to be able to sream music, play music on a USB stick and have easy access to Internet Radio plus an input for a turntable - this goes beyond what I would ever have imagined possible and I have to agree the best DIY solution I've ever seen. Fantastic.

Sooooo cool ! Cool

Really lovely integration with the system.
I would buy one if it were available...even as a kit.

Excellent idea! I should build something like that into my BeoSound 9000 when the CD mechanism finally fails. It can just spin the discs for visual effect while the music sources come from stored MP3 and lossless files stored within.

BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for good words.

Ralf,
I’m not sure what B&O app does (I don’t have it) but if whatever receives its inputs can produce datalink commands BeoModern will work with it just fine. It accepts both “old” and “new” datalink formats and as long as master unit can address aux device, they will be friends :)

cooldude,
In theory you could build it. I shared all files, code, hardware info etc. It will require a bit of love to build but I think hard part is done :)

mauro,
Since I don’t have any DLNA sources I never envisage integration with it. If DLNA protocol is open or there are some clients available on Linux it should be fairly easy integration. Inside BeoModern there is Raspberry Pi that is heavily underutilized for what it is asked to do at the moment. It can certainly do more if needed.

Cheers,
Henryk

Great job! Bravo!

Nice manual !!!!

I made a similar system, with less features (only DAB+, Bluetooth Rx and Ipod control  for Ouverture) !

i also made a second one with SCF display instead HDSP,

Hi,

is it possible to build this by our own? Don’t find the component list at your project page? Can you explain a little bit more how you did this?

Hello Henryk,

You've done an exquisite job on this. Beautiful.

I sometimes dream of a similar conversion on the Beosound 9000 when mine decides to play its last CD.

Best regards,

Hyponx

Hi Guys,

Thanks again.

mirco,
It is probably fair to say that I never thought about this project as something that someone would be interested to build.
There are some challenges there that go beyond just buying components. Crafting chassis and all display details was interesting to make to say at least. I think having 3D printer with big enough table would be great here and would make this job much easier compare to retrofitting beomaster front panel.

To your question, you can find schematics on github here: https://github.com/beomodern/hardware

  • One for display comes with pcb details as well. Someone could just simply manufacture those PCBs, assemble them and job done.
  • Second schematic is more about details how different modules are wired together. One will need all those modules though. Raspberry Pi is widely available but you might find issues with finding DSP EVB for example. Of course you can always use something different there. I think nobody manufactures them anymore. There are also some pieces that are quite expensive (like alphanumeric displays).

Finally, it is probably worth mentioning that this solution can be greatly optimized. I used what I simply had handy to do the job but this is certainly not a most efficient use of hardware.

Still if you want to build something like that and have questions about details, let me know.

Cheers,
Henryk
