Nope Stick out tongue

I’ve been so lucky to learn a bit about carpentry from a artist close by lately.

It is oak, not stickers.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any more details or pictures from the process? How thick is the veneer etc..

They are a work in progress.

But pretty much basic veneer-work.

Front is 3 sheets glued together, used the original metal to shape it. Cut to fit, sanded and oiled.

The top is two plates, cut to shape, sanded and oiled.

This is my first try, so there are imperfections I am not happy about. But I am mostly happy that my idea was indeed doable Smile

I think they will look pretty wicked placed on left and right of the Beogram with oak frame.

They look great!

It reminds me of someone who veneered RL speakers, very nice too, with white cloth.

A long time ago I saw images of B&O (red typenumber?) prototypes of BeoMaster 5500 with veneer on the sides. Cannot find that thread unfortunately. But they looked awesome as well!

I think the curvature will be perfect.

I already see some imperfections to the final product, but as this is the first try I have to cut myself some slack.

I am pretty sure that I will be able to make a pair of perfect units after this first “prototype Big Smile

Before starting, I opened up the speaker and checked for foam rot. It has white foam, so no need to open it again.

All this reminds me a funny little story.

When I was young I was interest in photography and above all in photography gear.
At that time Canon released à "ground breaking" middle range camera: it was the EOS 50, eye driven focus, lots of focus targets and whatever else I can't remember. But the most marketed feature was it's silver finish. Camera that have always been silver with black leatherette had long been replaced with more modern look in satin black finish making them all dark. Now that camera was very desirable in it's vintage silver finish and everybody (including me) wanted it around his neck.

After a short time, Canon released a very special new desirable edition of it's EOS 50 in black finish… At additional cost!

Finished product. I had a lot of fun making this. Working with wood is something I hope I can experience more. It is very therapeutical. Highly recommended Smile

And I am damn proud of this one!

Beautiful!

Any thoughts on changing the fret cloth to something more textured? Dare I use the “K” word??

Actually I was going to suggest a brown cloth fret, even more if its gonna complement his Beogram 4002.

@Leo : is it something your doing casually for fun or are you in the process of learning wood for a living, like a change of life?

Interesting that you ask. I am considering a change of life, so I am playing around to learn more.

I have been given the chance to rent a carpenters shop in evenings and weekends, so I think I will try to make a wood slat wall (lamella?) at home.

Maybe it is what we call a "claustra" here in France: like a wooden fence to separate space in a room

Yes wood work is very rewarding like any craftsmanship: someone once told me – it works or it don't, not like your (service) job where anyone has an educated opinion and can tell if it good or not (to his tastes) – very clever!

All the best if you go that way and remember I have a BM901 to re-wood! Big Smile
