Hello Beoworlders,

My Mk1 Eclipse panel has to be replaced (fortunately under warranty).

According to my dealer, the exchange cannot be done at my home as B&O only supplies the Oled panel and not the whole video unit. So the operation has to be done at the dealer's workshop.

This is not convenient as my dealer is far away and does not seem to prioritize distant customers.

I'm quite surprised, since B&O states "The overall service strategy is to service 95% of all products in the customer’s home".

Did someone had the case and if yes what has been changed?

And if a dealer can confirm and explain why is it so, I would appreciate.

As everybody knows, trust does not exclude control Big Smile

Kind regards,

Yann.

Hi,

it’s only the panels that are swooped NOT a complete oled screen/tv ! So its not 4 screws..

the mainboard and powersupply and IR board from faulty one is transfer to new oled panel

and the same backcover used for the new panel, that is a operation thats should be done in your home

1. you dont have to wait for tv to get back

2 transportation long way 2times is NOT economic

I had my panel replaced under warranty in my home.  It is true that only the panel was shipped.  The technician had to remove the top 1/2 of my Eclipse, transfer some parts from the old to the new, replace the top 1/2 of the Eclipse.  He performed the "surgery" on a folding table covered with a blanket in my front hall.  The entire procedure took ~2 hours.  I am also far away from my dealer (~300 miles).

The dealer is probably doing whatever is easiest for them.  How does the dealer suggest getting the panel to the workshop?  To me, transporting a big, awkwardly shaped panel, in non-factory packaging over some distance is just asking for trouble.

Thanks Stan,

I agree with you, not convenient and risky!

Fortunately I always keep B&O packagings.

I should take a picture of my cellar, nearly 40 years of B&O boxes.

Ha!  I have 25 years of B&O boxes in my attic, but the BV boxes have not survived, much too big.

The “whole video unit” is in the panel. It’s much easier done at home, i replaced mine in about 30 mins. It’s only 4 screws.

I have to disagree.  This is NOT what happened when they replaced my screen.  The "whole video unit" was not shipped to my home, rather just the panel.  Some of the black plastic pieces on the back of the old panel had to be moved to the new panel.  It didn't look difficult, but it was definitely more than remove 4 screws, slide off the old and slide on the new and add the 4 screws back (as in the video).  There's a difference between the initial install, and replacing the screen on an existing unit - at least in the US, or perhaps it's a timing thing... mine was replaced a few months ago.

I did it once with my dealer and then also moved and took it appart myself for the move. It’s easy, it’s only some screws and some plastic bits on push puns. Unless iam misunderstanding what the “whole video engine” is?! The dsse board was replaced on mine too and that was done at home too and didn’t take very long either. The bottom bit does nothing with video processing at all, all tv bits are in the panel. The bottom only either strips the audio out or passes the video through.

It’s a while ago, but I had one of the abdolute firsts and I think there was something they needed to change in the dsse board and the panel had a weird psu issue where it squeeked/whistled on power off. It always kept on working, never had it not function.

My picture would sometime show vague green blobs near the bottom, mostly when displaying yellow-orange (like skin tones).

Hi,

To everybody, thanks for your help.

Martin,

I also encountered colour oddities on the screen.

Mikipedia,

To clarify, the sound center will stay at home since it is not impacted by the repair.

But the screen will be took apart and a new display unit will replace the previous one. The other parts will not be changed.

I hope that the TV's back will remain with the silver coating.

Anybody knows?

Kind regards,

Yann.

Yes, the back is the same on all V1 models. I still don’t understand what your dealer wants to do. Because you’re just supposed to get a new “top” if you will minus the plastic cover bits. I also don’t understand why he can’t do it at your home.

I'm also trying to understand what the dealer wants to do.

My understanding is these TVs are not like previous BeoVisions where they can't be serviced in the same manner.

If there was something wrong with a previous BeoVision they could perform surgery and replace a defective part with out changing the whole panel (LCD screen); and I thought that if there was something wrong with the new BeoVision Eclipse (LG TV) that they can't perform the same surgery on the internals, and just replace the whole LG TV: The Eclipse LG is the video unit and Panel in one (i thought).

It seems in this case the Eclipse screen is going to be going in to surgery ; not unless Yann, you are just doing the shipping on behalf of the dealer, or they are going give you a new LG TV and do all of the screws and lugs, fit the aerial connections and route that appropriately so all you do when you get home is fit the new one on.

I would love to see your box collection Yann
