Beolab 4000 with BL11 or BL17 alone?

Hi,

Today I have a Beosound Core, connected to Beolab 11 subwoofer and then on to two Beolab 4000 (with powerlink).

After I added BL11, the sound got a real boost - used only for music.

 

However, I'm wondering what a step up in speakers could be?

They must be able to be wall mounted.

 

How do you think Beolab 3 would play, without the subwoofer and with the subwoofer compared to my current system?

Is it more important there that the speaker's treble is aimed at the listener than today?

 

Or if I sell both BL11 and 4000, to buy Beolab 17 (only used now for about 2000 euros).

On paper, they seem to play about as low in frequency.

Any tips or something?

I’ve owned both, and it’s night and day. Lab 17 all the way.

Would that “little” speaker BL17 be able to produce the same amount of bass and volume? About same frequencies?

Way more than the 4000, and you potentially wouldn’t need the 11 either. 17’s really are incredible for their size, my other ‘listening speakers’ are lab 9’s and while there is a difference in bass extension, it’s not anywhere as big as you might envisage.

I have both BL17 and BL3. Not really comparable. BL3 profit from the ALT lenses in the high tones. Overall they deliver a warm sound, but not too punchy.

The BL17 compares more to the BL4000 in a way due to lack of the ALT and lack a bit of midrange. But the 17 is so more powerful as the 4000. Overall 17 has a modern sound with very good bass. I think you will not benefit from combo 17/11.

Sell your 4000/11 and get 17/3’s

I have BL17s, BL3s that I’ve used with bothBL2 and BL11 (not at the same time). The impact from the BL17s can be felt. They wipe the floor with the BL3s.

I have BL9s and 5s too, and agree with the previous poster’s observation about the BL17 with respect to the BL9.

If you doubt, you really should audition them against each other.

I think BL17 is worth its money now as used ones. No new ones are produced any more. But the prices as new ones felt a bit to expensive for that kind of speaker. I’ve read people says they are better than the Lab 18..

You will find no shortage of forum friends touting BL17 as amazing, myself included. For their size, they’re unusually good. Yes, BL18 is prettier but the bass is not there. The BL18 may be better for off-axis listening due to ALT and may have a slightly more crisp treble but that’s not even clear. BL17 is amazing.
