Hi folks.

I currently have a Core that is connected to my Beosound 3000. The BS3000 is masterlinked to my BV10, so it is the TV speakers that are used when I hit play on the CD or via the app. I am thinking of adding a BS Moment to the mix. I am fed up of using my phone as the music 'controller' and like the idea of a designated control unit. I know that the economics do not really stack up; you can get an iPad mini to do the same (and I have read about the 'kiosk mode').

Question: provided the Moment is connected to my network, will it connect to the Core and allow me to use it as the control unit? Might be a daft question but I just wanted to check that the Moment can effectively 'drive' the Core.

Any help massively appreciated.

Thank you.

I see what you mean.

However in your current setup the extra BS Moment will not add much to the mix.....for different reasons.
(By the way, what are you trying to acchieve having the Moment also?).

My advice would be to get an iPad Mini or an iPod Touch, strip it and only install the Bang & Olufsen app (and maybe Spotify, if Deezer isn’t your favourite music service already).

Dedicate this to your setup - it should not be used for anything else!

In addition you - of cource - will have to use the Beo4, that you already use (for activating the sources of the 3000 and for controlling of the BV10).

Thank you MM.

I am seduced by the looks of the Moment and the beautiful wooden design, plus the fact that it can sit as a dedicated controller for my music. I currently use the app on my phone and it is ok, it works fine, but it's not the same as having a separate dedicated control unit. I dislike having a phone as a controller (for the reasons that other people have expressed in this forum - glad I'm not alone on that!)

Perhaps I should look more closely at the iPad mini (etc) option and see if I can find a nice wooden case for it.

But in relation to my question, would the Moment actually work in my set-up? (Yes, I still need to turn on the TV speakers with the Beo 4 remote).

Another option if you are considering an IPad, would be to use a first gen or 2nd gen iPad Pro in kiosk mode (The Logitech BASE is a nice stand that uses the little magnetic connector to charge). I have an iPad and an iPod Touch docked to an Apple dock as remote controls for my B&O speakers and music. I seldom use my phone or even Essence Remote.

A bonus of using the app is that I can change tracks or volume with my watch.

My B&O Home:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beoplay M5 (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • Beoremote X (poor man's Halo Big Smile)

This is actually a very good questions that I too would like to know the answer to.

My situation is the opposite. I have the Moment (and I love it) but I use it less and less. I've thought of replacing it with a Core but I always come to the conclusion that I'd miss certain features of the Moment like the moodwheel and the discover tab etc...

On the other hand the Moment isn't very future proofed. It lacks AP2 and now we see that we cannot even expect to use it with new B&O products like the Halo etc (I was actually hoping the Halo would have a voice activation and could connect to my Moment setup - that would have been perfect for future proofing my Moment but alas that will not be the case :(

So the question remains, does anyone know if a Moment could be connected to a Core - with the view of using the Moment (like the moodwheel etc) once in a while but for the rest of the time the core control the music? And if that is possible would the music then go through the Core if played on the Moment (and could e.g. a Halo be used to control something in such situations?).

My Moment is connected to my BV Horizon just to add more complications into the mix.

I am as well interested in the "integration" of Moment and Core. In my case, not only that would allow using the Halo as a remote, but as well WISA connection to speakers and dislocating Core.

I don't have Core yet, but if that could work I would buy both Core and the Halo. And I agree with the OP, I really enjoy both the Moodwheel and the Discovery mode.

Here is what I do.

In addition to the 3 iPads that are more stationary and placed ‘strategic’ in the house, I have this little iPod Touch as a moveable ‘beoremote’.

I can take it with me as I need it.

On all devices only the Bang & Olufsen app (plus Spotify....because I am a Spotify user) is installed....nothing else.

My phone I leave in the hallway, when I am home - there is no Bang & Olufsen app on that.

I realized the need for a smaller device to take with me when I move around in the house - dragging a big iPad with me for this did not work!

The 3 stationary iPads are more like status displays....I am a socker for cover display....I want to know/see what is currently playing around the house.

Of course I have BeoRemotes as well - my main listening areas are the two BV with full 5.1 setup....so I need these anyway.

Thank you. Sounds like you have created a very user-friendly, practical system.

Can't quite beat the look of that oak cover on the Moment though, beautiful design. IPads clearly achieve the same (indeed more) functionality but they cannot compete in the aesthetics department. The question I suppose is whether one prioritises form over function.

I do like your system however, and it's really good to see how other people deal with the issues.

You can add a touch of Oak with an Ikea dock:

BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

And if that is possible would the music then go through the Core if played on the Moment (and could e.g. a Halo be used to control something in such situations?).

I added a Core to my Moment for the following reasons:

They both have the main music services I use,

I.e. Deezer, DLNA and TuneIn so one could cover the other in case of failure.

They both have NL Multiroom so can be joined by any of my Beoplay products.

The Moment has the Beogram/Beocord plugged in its line-in and the Core has the TV plugged in its optical in.

They are both connected to a TR1 which connects to my Wisa speakers.

I mainly use the Core for all services and also to play Moments line-in, so the Beogram/Beocord, as the Core is linked to the Moment, the sound then goes through the Core, which is controlled by an Essence remote or the app on various IOS devices. It also happens that I use the Moment as the sound source to play LPs or use the its search feature which is more capable than the B&O app search feature (you can search by label, such Blue Note, ECM) to play directly to the speakers via the TR1.

When the MW was operating properly, it was one of my main way of listening to my DLNA & Deezer collections

Plex/Plexamp now partially replace the MoodWheel type of listening.

Voilà

Form/aesthetics over function and vice versa.

Ok, my solution was created out of a need for function.....and the possibilities I have - a more profane attitude.

This can not - and is not intended to be - a replacement for the new beatyful remote (the Halo)..

Firstly that would not be able to control my setup (BV Avant 1 gen and V1 plus....) at all.

Secondly - which is more important - my solution gives me access to an important function, that the Halo does not = searching (in my case) in the Spotify library and in my own on the NAS......and it show the cover art :-)

Where the Halo for some users is a perfect companion, extension of their products and the easy access to music as such,, it does not suit my needs.

Each user/owner of B&O devices should go for the solution that suits him best.

The Halo is a genuine B&O solution - I hope it will sell well.

And - of cource - I miss the beatyful and handy volume control wheel of the Halo in my more ‘practical’ solution.

These posts about my way of doing things are only intended to be an inspiration for others looking for the best solution for their use of the B&O devices and the music.

Certainly not intended as a universal solution.

There is a charger cable behind the Moment that I plug to the iPad when needed, as I regularly move the iPad + dock where I sit, in my office for example, so I keep the visual control on my music. For a more static option, the IKEA dock is not thick enough to integrate an iPad charger, that would force the iPad to be in portrait mode which is not my preference.
