I have my 50s connected to a Core by optical. The Core is set to fixed level out as I was told this was the preferred method when I purchased the 50s. The problem this causes is it complicates turning the Core on and adjusting volume. It is always a two step procedure. First option is to turn Core on from app then switch to the 50s in the app to adjust volume. Second option is to turn the Core on with a BR1 then switch menus in the BR1 to BL50 and adjust volume through the ir eye connected to the 50s. I also have an Essence remote that controls the volume through the ir eye.

I was thinking about switching to variable out from the Core and thus I could adjust the volume from the Core menu in the app, or the Core menu in the BR1, or with a Halo. My concern is having both the Core and the BL50 volume controls active. Could that somehow cause a damaging level of volume to the 50s?  I could set a low default and low maximum volume for the 50's volume control in the app.

Any thoughts or opinions? Anyone controlling their 50s or 90s volume through the Core menu in the app instead of the 50s/90s internal volume control?

Thanks!

Not exactly your usecase as no core. But I have my bg5500 connected to a bm5000 and use the preamp to rca in on the 50’s and the bm5000 does the volume control and works fine as i never have to use the app for volume control on the 50’s. The 50’s are set to max volume but never had a “shocking” experience as the bm5000 starts up at volume 28 iirc. Don’t know if it helps, but that’s about all i can say atm about my somewhat similar case Smile

Looked at the technical sound guide. On page 40 it says it is best to disable the source’s volume control and use the 50’s volume control. So I think I have it set up the way I should, which as mentioned in your podcast, means the volume can not be controlled by the Halo.

Seems like a big goof to launch this beautiful but glorified remote control and exclude it from functioning with the company’s two fanciest speakers in the way those speakers’ technical sound guides recommend...

Hopefully a software patch can resolve this...? If B&O is listening...?

Currently: BeoSound Core, BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA

If Geoff sees this thread, maybe he could answer the question?

Is it OK to use the variable out on the Core with the 50s and if so what should I set the volume at on the 50? Today I tried it with the volume at 70 on the 50s using the Core to change the volume. It seemed to work ok.
