BeoSound Essence Remote: Dead, not battery related

Anyone ever have an issue where their Essence Remote just died! Tried changing batteries with no luck. Pressing the pairing button does nothing. Wonder if it is even possible to repair or or even worth it...

 

Just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue.
