Hi,

I recently picked up an 8002 turntable, and am having trouble getting it to function properly. The symptom is If I push play the arm will move over towards the platter and get almost there. Then it stops. Pushing stop on the control panel does nothing. I can move the arm with the foward and backward buttons. Any ideas what the problem might be? I replaced the belt but not with an original. The belt I used is close in size but may be a little tight.

As a separate problem the solenoid does not work and the arm stays in the up position. I tried a 9V battery on the solenoid and it does function when the battery is applied. Again any suggestions of where to look for potential causes?

I can change caps etc. And have started doing so but I need to order some. I have limited ability as far as diagnoses and schematic reading. So If anyone can point me in the right direction please be as specific as possible.

Thanks everyone in advance. I of course would really like to get the table working. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A great turntable but difficult to get working!

- order the correct belt from member Dillen, too tight belts can destroy the motors bearings.

- Recap, Dillen can supply you with the correct capacitors

- Lube the guide rail and worm wheel with the correct grease (lithium?)

- Look with eagles eyes for broken solderings, mostly on the connectors

- Work antistatic when working on the microprocessor board (maybe best when working on any board)

These are the first steps, if it's still not running afterwards there'll be help here diagnosing! Beolover's website and posts by sonavor here can help too.

A question if I may. Is there supposed to be a light inside the part that spins on the tonearm assembly? I'm not talking about the bulb directly under the arm. I'm speaking inside the spinning part near end of shaft. If so should I see a light coming from it? Because obviously I don't. If this bulb is burnt out could it cause the problems described above? Anyone know where I can get a replacement part?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you mean the rotary encoder at the end of the shaft?

This uses an IR diode, you will never see light come from it but it can fail.

Read this one, sounds similar to your trouble. If you have checked capacitors, solder joints and installed the right belt, you will need some diagnosing.

Thanks everyone so for all of your help.

Unfortunately things seems to have gotten worse. The condition of the turntables at present is as follows. I get the red dot in the display but no buttons or other functions work. Yes, I have made sure all of the cables etc are installed correctly and pushed in properly. I do "not" seem to get 15V on c28 but not sure if I should get it there since none of the buttons work.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Getting frustrated.

Thanks again in advance.

The condition getting worse points even more to bad solderings. Or maybe bad caps. Best to sort these out first!

Remember these turntables are pretty difficult to work on and not very forgiving. If you want it done right contact beolover or dillen for repairs.
