I have an issue and I would like some advice/help.

My BV7-32 MKII was masterlinked through my different rooms and in every room I could use  BEO4 to call up any input in any room (Beolink Passives with IR). That was independent of if BV7 was on or somebody was using a different input in my living room.

Now I have installed a Beosystem 3 (Latest model with HDMIs, latest SW and 3D option). That means my BV7 is used only as a monitor and all cables are run to my BSYS3 including Masterlink.

Here is a sketch to visualize it:

What I experience now is that only if my Beosystem is on in a source, I can hear music in other linked rooms when I press the respective IR on button. No other command seems to work.
I also cannot call up another source if someone is watching something else on the TV.
This way i lost my independence in every room (as it was in the past when my BV7-32 was used without BSYS3)
I have assigned 4 sources:
TV -SettopBox 1
VMEM- SettopBox2
DTV - DIgital Greek Tv (DVBS-T)
V.AUX2- Apple TV
So if someone watches VMEM in the TV I cannot call up Apple TV in another link room streaming from my iPhone using V.AUX2.
I tried to change cabling and SOURCES (For example i changed Apple TV from V.AUX2 to DVD, or PC, etc to no avail)
My questions:
1) Am I using a wrong BEO4 command? Or should also my BV7 should be masterlinked also (now all link rooms are guides to BSYS3 masterlink port cause TV acts as monitor). Could it be an ML Option issue?
2) If this is not possible what is your idea of connecting/buy to each Beolink Passive so I can stream audio from my phone or tablet independently. (Without having time connect 4 Apple TV’s or 4 Beosound Core’s On each Beolink Passive though)
I have a proposal from the respectful Steve at SoundsHeavenly which i am a customer and very much respect, with an extra box to be fixed in my Beolink Passives. But this is difficult as those are hidden in ceiling and also i would have lost again the possibility to change sources in a link room as i would have to unplug the IR cable.
Thank you in advance

Dimitris-

Have you enabled POWER SAVING on the BS3?

For ML to work, on the BS3 you have to turn POWER SAVING to OFF.  You do this in TV SETTINGS, OPTIONS, STANDBY SETTINGS.

If this isn't the problem, then maybe your option setting are incorrect.  I am not sure, but I think the TV/BS3 should be in V.OPT 1, and the link rooms in L.OPT 6.

How were these sources connected previously to the 7-32?

(Probably using scart connections).

How can you connect the BSys3 to the 7-32 with HDMI, when there is no HDMI input on a 7-32 MK2?

(You probably use the DVI-in there).

Sources connected to an HDMI input can not be distributed on ML!

If it is AirPlay from your ATV you are after, a workaround could be to use the optical output (when version 3) converted to analog and then in parallel connected to an analog sound input on the BSys3, a scart via an adater.

In case you have an ATV version 4, you could use an HDMI Audio Extractor in order to get an analog sound output....like above.

N.B. You could also use an extra ATV just for that job.

If you want independency in each linkroom, you could connect a BL Active to the ML in each room.

The link eye should also be connected there. The Passives would then only be used as an amp (as now for the speakers there) connected with a PL cable to the Active.

The Active Link boxes have an additional input called PC (ask Steve for the right cables). There you could connect any AirPlay device (or ATV like above). This input is activated with the PC command on the Beo4....then just play to the connected AP device.

If you do that in all linkrooms, you can play different music in each room.

Thank you for your answer Guy,

Yes i csn confirm that Power Saving is OFF. Also BSYS3 is on V.OPT1 and link rooms in L.OPT6. (I also tried with L.OPT 2).

Still nothing!

Thank you so much Millemissen for your detailed answer.

1) Yes i was using both HDMI and SCART connections in BV7-32. I implemented an HDMI 3:1 hub so 1 HDMI was connected in the  DVI-I socket with an  HDMI-> DVI adaptor. Lots of cables thiugh.

2) Yes i am looking of Airplay in my link rooms INDEPENDENTLY of what is active on the main room. That was doable before.

3) I have both ATV4 and ATV3. Both are not working in this setup.

I would understand your suggestion for extractors, SCARTs etc, if i did not have sound at all in my link rooms.

This is not the case. HDMI input can be distributed through ML (not picture though) because i can hear it.

To be more accurate. I press VMEM in main room. Then BSYS3 gives image and sound to my BV and to my 5.1 speaker setup.

I go to a link room and i have 2 options. Either i press VMEM on BEO4 or the ON button of each BL Passive IR eye. WORKS

I can also change the source to DTV in my link rooms and change source hearing sound now from the terrestrial channels (BV7 in main room is stillon VMEM without problem).

The only 2 sources that i cannot hear UNLESS main room is on the same is TV(second Set Top Box) and V.AUX2 (ATV).

I also played with cabling swapping positions in the HDMI sockets and also reassigned ATV to DVD and VMEM instead of VAUX2 just in case but nothing.

It feels strange that the definite upgrade i had in sound, in connectibility and image processing with the BSYS3 cannot handle this task.

I still think this is an option/command or other minor issue (ATV configuration maybe) that i cannot figure out!

This is why i cried out here, for brainstorming by the experts :-)

As for the disribution of HDMI-connected sound, that is kind of new to me.

Maybe there has been some changes to the later versions of the BSys3, that I don’t know about.

I haven’t got any BSys3-based product any more, so I can’t test that.

As for your challenge getting sound to the linkrooms, I really can’t say much.

Honestly I am struggling a bit to understand how your setup works.

The BV7, that you use as monitor should not be involved here, because it is not MasterLinked anymore.

Why some HDMI-connected sources on the BSys3 work and others not, is a mystery.

The difference to your previous setup (with the BV7-32) is, that it at that time all the sources had an analog connection for sound and the digital (using the hub) for video...right?

Maybe some of the experts here, who still have a BSys3, can say more - or test it with their setup?

Perhaps those hdmi sources that do not have HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) do get distributed by Masterlink?

His hdmi 3-1 hub may have 'stripped' HDCP in the previous setup.  (My hdmi audio extractor strips HDCP, as I have discussed before.)

It's certainly a strange problem!

Yep, I have sound only through HDMI when the same source is active in main room.

My setup is simpler than I try to describe. But thank you for trying to understand.

Yes. No Masterlink on my BV7-32 anymore. Works as a monitor. I have to press PC in BV7 eye and that is all. Then I control the BSYS IR eye (in the main room). IR limiters for BEO4 is saving my life on this.

And yes you are right on your last question. I got rid of all analogue staff for sound cause HDMI now can be processed by BSYS3 in terms of both image and sound.

Let’s  hope some expert will pick this up and enlighten us

For future reference this is solved!

The issue is sloved by using a 3rd Gen Apple TV and connected to BSYS AV4 (assigneD as DVD2 in BEO4). The audio connection is done not by HDMI but wIth an optical to RCA adaptor. Then all rooms are fully functional indepentently on what the BV7 is tuned in.

Simple as that and Masterlink future proof i believe.

Of course you can do a lot - a hell lot - with a masterlink-based system.....by adding som 3rd party elements like the ATV4 or a PC/MAC or a Shield....

For some this will be perfectly fine - others will miss something there.

It all depends on your needs, your skills (for a bit of tweeking) - and on how much you want to spend for the setup/what B&O devices you already have.

It also depends on how much understanding for the controlling of the ‘special solution’ your family, your H/SWMBO has.

Not one shoe fits all!

One question for you!

Trying to understand your setup/the drawing, you posted, it seems like you control two systems, when you want to get full audio from the BV7, right?

But how is the BL7 of the BV integrated there....since it is connected to the BV and NOT to the BSys3?

As I see it, you can easily watch the sources from the BV with sound coming from the BL7 AND use the sources of the BSys3 independently in all link rooms (and via the two BL8000/BL2 for pure stereo).

But you won’t have a center channel when playing video content from the BSys3.

Hi,

BL7-1 is connected as allmy living room speakers to the Powerlink sockets of BSYS3. BV7 is only serving as a monitor connectd to BSYS with an HDMI cable and a use of a HDMI-DVI-I adapter.

I did not clearly get ypur question for controlling two systems though! Can you please clarify this?

I was referring to your drawing - there is no sign of a PL connection to the BL7 speaker there!

This is the kind of things that makes it hard to understand your setup.

Ahhhh ok sorry for that!

I am happy that the ML is fully functional again and now with AIRPLAY throughout the house. One extra info. Not all commands are waking up the ML in link IR eyes.

DVD2 is one of those who can so this is why i assigned it to AV4 instead of (DTV2, CAMERA, etc)

For ML to work, on the BS3 you have to turn POWER SAVING to OFF . You do this in TV SETTINGS, OPTIONS, STANDBY SETTINGS.

If this isn't the problem, then maybe your option setting are incorrect. I am not sure, but I think the TV/BS3 should be in V.OPT 1, and the link rooms in L.OPT 6.

I’ve been struggling with Masterlink between BS3’s and thought this might be a place to check. But I can’t find the Standby Settings anywhere, even in the service menu. Is this only on newer software, perhaps?
