at times when i turn on the machine the display flickers and sometime the radio frequencies rapidly change but the programme playing stays on its frequency, what is happening. This is an older machine new to me but with beautiful sound and superior reception.

Is it "only" the frequency readout display that flickers or also the source display?
And is it the numbers that roll or the light intensity that varies?

, thanks for your response dillen, it is also the source but to a lesser degree, it is the numbers that roll, the light intensity is constant

Could perhaps be a dying prescaler IC. That wouldn't be a first.
Does the display also flicker when it displays the time?

found it thanks, yes it too flickers. The flickering does not happen all the time but is intermittent.

Check for cracked solder joints at the connectors at the lower edge (when opened in serviceposition) of the processor board.
Also at the volume control board at the bottom of the Beomaster, just below the processor board.
Replace the filter capacitors at the regulator board.

Martin, thanks for the info! I am afraid your expertise and knowledge is far beyond mine, I will likely pass the whole system to a friend of my sons that is very well versed in this field. I acquired a complete system recently and would love to have it fully functional. I know it has been in storage for a number of years and likely needs lots of things done to it. I received a, Beomaster 6000, a Beogram 8002, a tape deck, a cd player and headphones ( all Bang and Olufsen). Oh and two RL 60 speakers, mostly right now I am listening to radio and some cds, also have two remotes both the same, the sound is totally super. I want to also fix the ABR in them, both plates have fallen off it seems. I think I can do this myself. I am currently using my Fisher 800c and ESS tempest speakers but I think the B&O sounds better.

cheers

Terry
