I’m looking for recommendations for simply recorded, but also accurate recordings of solo guitar work with or without vocals. I want to try to simulate someone playing in my room, without having to force my son for a command performance. It could be acoustic or electric, and any genre. So please tell me your favorite recordings that give you the “they are here” feeling. Thanks

Dom

Pretty much anything from this neglected Oldfield album. There’s a lot of acoustic playing.

Please pardon a suggestion that is not solo guitar, but still one of my favorite "you-are-sitting-in-my-studio" ambiance recordings from the 1970's:

Laurindo Almeida playing Radamés Gnattali's "Sonata for Guitar and Cello in Three Movements", from a direct-to-disc 45RPM album by Crystal Clear Recordings, "Virtuoso Guitar".

Both Gnattali and the recording are well-enough known to get Wikipedia entries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtuoso_Guitar_(Laurindo_Almeida_album) & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radamés_Gnattali

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I really appreciate all the great music I haven’t heard before. I’m looking forward to a listening session with as many as I can find.

If you're willing to consider duets and such, Al DiMeola and Paco De Lucia have released numerous albums together, acoustic with heavy flamenco and Spanish influences. Both are brilliant guitarists. On the DiMeola album "Elegant Gypsy" the pair did a duet called "Mediterranean Sundance" that is brilliant, an incredible virtuoso performance by both of them. It's also amazing to realize that DiMeola was I think 23 when he recorded that album. People like that make you realize how little you've accomplished.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
