Now that I have my Panasonic projector acting as a BeoVision on my BeoSystem 3, I noted the start up timing doesn’t match the projector startup and I’m missing much of the electronic curtains magic. I’d like to know if I can increase the speed of the startup signal to the monitor and perhaps delay the start of the electronic curtains. Does anybody know if this is possible, and if so, how to make the changes? Is it a matter of changing the selections for the BeoVision I have connected? Are there some parameters in the menu that allow these changes?

You certainly can adjust the curtain timing. Go into the system menu (MENU, MENU, take the curser down to OPTIONS, press RED when OPTIONS is highlighted, press GO). Then select ADJUSTMENTS. And then select CINEMA TIMINGS. It takes a little trial and error to get the values exactly as you need them. If you're doing a 2-screen setup with a motorized screen coming down over your TV, you can even make the adjustment for the electronic curtains on the TV to close just before the motorized screen reaches the TV screen. The proper timing settings make everything look very smooth indeed.

I also use these settings to send out a trigger for a Lintronic code-converter to send out appropriate signals to adjust the lights when entering/leaving the CINEMA mode.

I don't understand what the EXTRA BLANKING settings are for and would welcome any understanding of that setting.

P.S. Even though you're not using a CINEMA setup, you should still be able to adjust the timings for the primary display.

Thanks, that’s what I was looking for. As you mention, I’m using the projector as the main and only display, so I thought the cinema settings would not work for me. I’ll try it tonight.

I'm pretty sure that you can still adjust the settings for your primary display this way. I remember noticing that the timing changed for my TV startup & electronic screens when I made changes to these delays. Good luck!

I tried changing the first group of Cinema settings- start up - but I didn’t notice any changes. Now I’m adjusting the closing settings. I’ll test again tonight since I don’t want to stress the projector with too many rapid power cycles.

Does anyone know if there is any difference between the start up routines for the various BeoVision selections in the list? I need one that supports 720p or 1080p, but has a delay before activating the electronic curtains, or sends the power on command a little sooner.

Right now when I press the tv button on the Beo4 the BeoSystem starts and maybe 3-5 seconds later the projector is turned on. By the time the projector bulb is bright enough, the curtains have already opened. Closing the curtains of course is no issue.

It doesn’t seem to work like that. I tried changing the settings, but it didn’t seem to have any affect on the monitor electronic curtains.Sad

I found where I had written down notes about the settings for the BeoSystem 3. (It's been awhile since I've upgraded from BeoSystem 3 to BeoSystem 4). My notes show that the "curtain delay" setting adjusts the delay before the TV (in your case projector) turns on. Maybe this might help. I had mine set to 10 seconds. I know that this cause a noticeable delay in the startup time.

Thank you for digging this up. I think my problem is a little different. I need to decrease the turn on time for the projector and then increase the time before the electronic curtains active. That will give the projector bulb enough time to get to enough brightness to actually see the curtains in action.

Maybe the attached document will help?

Yes, similar to this but for the timings for the Beovisions. In my setup, I am using the Panasonic Projector as the "Beovision" and not using Format 0. It works so far because the projector command set from the monitor output is the same as the Panasonic plasma screens B&O used for their Beovisions. I was hoping there might be some documentation showing the timing differences, if any, between the different BV models in my menu settings. I need a selection that has a default resolution of at least 720p or 1080p because my projector can't handle some of the others. Then I need it to have a shorter turn-on command, and longer electronic curtains start command to allow the projector bulb to warm up. There are selections from early BV4s through the BV12 on my list since this is late model BS3 wit HDMI outputs.

Of course an alternative is to lock the BS into Format 0 mode so I can adjust the timing as needed, but then I also need the BS3 to send the Panasonic RS232 startup commands to my projector. I don't know if that's possible. Any other ideas? Is there a difference between startup timings for the various BVs in the BS3?

The document seems to indicate there are cinema off timings as well as cinema on timings. I'm not sure whether the cinema off timings are honoured during startup from standby, or only when you switch back out of format 0 mode but it would be worth trying if you haven't already.

Thanks Martin, I did try changes in both areas and I guess they only impact the cinema outputs and have no impact on the primary HDMI output timings. I'm willing to try the B&O monitors from the list one at a time, but I've run into problems when I selected a monitor that has an output my projector doesn't accept. When I get it wrong, I have to enter the reset command to enter safe mode. A bit of a pain I'd like to avoid if I can.  Is there a table that covers the default outputs for the Beovisions on the BS3 list? For example, would the timing for the BV4-103 be a little longer, and therefore a better fit for my configuration? Does the BV4-103 support 720p or 1080p by default?

When looking at cinema timings on my BV9 I don't seem to have curtain timers, just stand done in cinema on and stand turn delay in cinema off instead of curtain delay.

Am I missing something obvious?
