I have multiroom devices at my home. I am considering getting a couple devices to use at work, either M5 or A1. (Ignoring sound quality they are the two I like the looks of the best). I want to use the devices at two separate work locations. My questions are:

1. Are there any problems using a multiroom product on a large public wifi network or anything to be concerned about doing so?

2. Can I add, for example, an M5 at work, to the app when all other devices are on a different network at a different location? I know they wont work together, but can multiroom products at different locations and different networks all be added to the same app? I don’t think there is any way to have two copies of the app on the phone?

Thanks!

You might be able to log in the M5 in that network - best ask the admin there.

N.B. You don’t have to use the Bang & Olufsen app - only if you would need the built in sources.

As for TuneIn and Deezer, you can just AirPlay or Chromecast from their native apps.

But do remember, that anyone in that same network can AirPlay or ChromeCast to it then - do really want that?

The A1 is not a connected/NL device - it only works over bluetooth.

That would be the most flexible solution - just remember to turn it off, when you don’t use it.

If that - soundwise - is not enough for you, you could use the M5 in bluetooth mode ( = without the wifi network).

Thanks!

No problem getting it on the network at work. Network administrator will do for me.

Had not thought about the problem of others possibly accessing it as you mentioned.

If I am going to use bluetooth I will go with the A1. The reason I would choose the M5 is for the ease of just tapping it to start and use the included Deezer and Tune In. I like the ease of not needing to use the phone to start it playing.

Thank you for all of your comments! Much appreciated.

Isn't the "AirPlay Password" feature supported on the M5, to prevent this if you wish?  This person describes how s/he got an *unwanted* AirPlay password (on the A6), and how to turn the feature off -- the screen shots look like that's the same spot in the BeoSetup app to turn it on...

Maybe, never needed that myself.

But wouldn’t that require that you put in the code each time, you want to AirPlay.

Maybe some one else has experience with this stuff.

Looked at the Chromecast settings on my Core. It has a section entitled privacy. Within that section it advised to use a secure network so others can not join the network and cast to the Core. As that warning is there, and no mention of a password, it would seem to me that Chromecast can not be password protected. Although I never use Airplay or Chromecast so I may be totally wrong as talking about something I know very little about. LOL

Not under Mac OS playing via iTunes, because the password will be saved in the user's keychain, if the "Remember" box is checked when entering it.  Under iOS 12, the Music app just asks and remembers it without option.  It also saves the volume level for each device.  (Note: On the Mac, a lock icon appears next to the device's AirPlay Name in the pop-up list.  No telltale icon on iOS, but if you delete the password from the AirPlay device, it just works.  Yet iOS saves the old password (somewhere!?) because if you turn that old password back on again in the AirPlay device, the app works without enquiring.)

Reading the comments here as well as looking in the app store has caused me to have another question.

Can the M5 be used with either the B and O multiroom app and the Beoplay app? It looks like it can be used with the Beoplay app? Is that just for Bluetooth or could I also connect it to wifi using the Beoplay app and use the onboard Deezer in the same manner as with the B and O multiroom app?

Thanks!

You can use both apps. Beoplay app is more for basic usage and Tonetouch settings. You cannot access Deezer using the Beoplay app.

Just one thing to check on, make sure you ask your network admin if there's sufficient bandwidth for music streaming and your usual office work. Shouldn't be a problem with today's high speed networks, but it's something you should check so you don't accidentally stomp on the network. I've worked places, simulation labs, where the simulations saturated the networks with traffic and anything like music or video streaming was not allowed, but those were probably exceptional circumstances.

Something to check though.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Thanks for the quick answers. The more I look at the issues using a Beoplay/Beosound at work, the more I think I should just use my “antique” Beosound 1 for regular radio and my old CDs.

One more question, could I use Google Cast with the Beoplay app?

if you are concerned about distribution between products I would be weary of the backbone IT configuration and the safety mechanisms the company has in place. We had an installation at a very prominent AV brand offices that prevented us from distributing due to their back end security provisions they have in place. To make it work we had to subnet and have the customer BT into a product for redistribution. They would not bend on their security even for a music stream to re-distributed. Just something to consider.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

In that case just add a bluetooth adapter to it....for more options.

And - the BeoPlay app was for setting up the bluetooth devices and managing the sound/volume (when you send something via BT)......

....no ChromeCast, no nothing!
