Hello.

I am a new forum member and a new Beosystem owner.

My "private Beoworld" is Beosystem 5000:

- BeoCord 5000 (4921)

- BeoGram CD50 (5111)

- BeoMaster 5000 (2321)

- Master Control Panel 5000

- BeoVox S55

Yes, it's only 5000 but I'm proud of having it, the sound is wonderful .... but I have some questions.

1) I do not have a turntable, which model besides BeoGram 5000/5005 will work fully with the system and MCP5000 ??

2) I can buy RX2 (5831) but will all functions be handled like in 5000/5005 ??

3) My CD50 sometimes skips time if I want to change for another model that would be fully functional ??

I apologize for so many questions in my first post but B&O is my new love and I would like to get the best result but not change the whole system. Despite of its age, I think it was the best choice for me. I know that there are certainly better systems, but it's the first classic system.

Best regards,

Martynka.

"1) I do not have a turntable, which model besides BeoGram 5000/5005 will work fully with the system and MCP5000 ??"

Making the assumption that you'd like your 4 components to match each other, Beogram 5005 and 5500 are identical turntables and are fully compatible with your 5000 system.   The Beogram 5000 is of course also compatible if you prefer radial over tangential operation.

"2) I can buy RX2 (5831) but will all functions be handled like in 5000/5005 ??"

The RX2 is compatible but won't operate via remote control, as the above-mentioned would.  It also won't match the rest of the 5000 system cosmetically.

"3) My CD50 sometimes skips time if I want to change for another model that would be fully functional ??"

Even tho it sounds good, the CD50 is KNOWN for problems.  Go with a CD 5500.  Fully compatible and matches perfectly.

And don't knock your Beosystem 5000.  It was B&O's flagship sound system back in the day and the Beomaster 5000 arguably sounds better than the other 3 stacked system Beomasters.

Nothing wrong with the 5000 system and it uses Datalink between components so lots of choice. Your only disadvantage is the remote - the 5500 introduced the Beolink 1000 codes and this allows one remote for both audio and TV. If you can live with this and wish to upgrade, the obvious choices are:

1. Beogram - the 5500 will work fine though the radial 5000 probably is a better deck sonically!!

2. Beocord 5500 - auto reverse deck with HX-Pro

3. Beogram CD5500 - quite possibly B&O's best CD player - TDA1541A DAC - the best. A lot quieter and more reliable than the CD50

The RX2 is not remote control - if you don't mind it not stacking, the 8002 will work!!

I had a 5000 system from new - gave it to my builder and got a 9500 instead - now that is a great system!!

I can also buy Beogram 1800 (5811), fits with color. I understand that just as in the case of RX2, everything would work except MCP control ??

Thanks for answer.

But will the cd5500 be controlled MCP5000 ?? This piece of brick is not just for show. In my opinion, it is brilliant and I use it. The same question to the Beocord 5500 deck.

I want stay with fully worked Beomaster 5000 with MCP5000 ( maybe except turntable )

Yes it can be, because the MCP’s IR signals go to the BeoMaster and then they are relayed through the datalink cable.

If you also had a CD50 handheld remote like me the answer is no, it will not work, as it’s IR signals were meant for the CD50 in an OEM environment.

Aaaaa... Now, I think I know everything :)

Every components will works if are relayed through the datalink cable. It's simple and smart.

Thanks !!

I agree: simple and smart.

From memory it was advertised as being like Aladdin’s lamp Smile

Hi Martynka,

Not sure if you’re aware, but you can connect the VHS91 to the BM5500 via Audio Aux Link (7-pin DIN cable from the VHS91 to the TAPE2 port on the BM5500). It then functions as a 3hr (or 6hr) tape recorder that can be controlled from the MCP5500!

If memory serves, there needs to be a small modification to the VHS91 to allow it be remote controlled in this way. Maybe another member can be more specific.

Quite correct Lawrence - I have one myself:

A) connections - yes

B) double video recording for pure audio recording - yes; for me this was a pure bonus I had not known about - originally I just wanted to own a B&O VCR

C) remote control mod - I am not sure about this - I don’t recall hearing about one - if I did I have forgotten - I use the front panel’s manual controls

Hi Elephant,

Re. the remote control mod, I bought my VHS91 with an MX2000. I was told that the 1-2-3 switch on the back of the VHS91 had to be set to 3 to respond to the (Crunchie bar) Video Terminal of the MX2000, but when I subsequently got my BC9500 I would have to have a component (maybe a capacitor?) snipped off the PCB before using it in position 1. Something to do with the on-off behaviour of the VCR.

Martynka, glad you made an informed choice. Smile

Thanks for reply,

Now, I decided to look into the beomaster. The reason was the not always opening panel and the play button on the right not always working.

Inside, looks all in the original, no repairs:

I blew everything with compressed air. I sprayed all the elements of the panel flap with dry Teflon, and the play button was sprayed with a contakt spray.

Now the panel opens with every touch, and the play button works without a problem.

bravo me !!!

Tomorrow I will open the deck, the cassette compartment opens slowly and does not fully close.
