I have a lovely condition rosewood beocord 8000 that won't work, maybe someone on here can shed some light on the cause of the issues,
symptom, when I try and play a tape it moves the mechanism into position with a loud noise and then disengages immediately new belts have been fitted I am not sure what the issue is
thanks for any info
Okay then.
I suspect Beo3000 will likely find a dead motor or a bad fuse (wrong belts? ). Possibly both, unfortunately.
The best replacement motor is not cheap, but if you want to avoid the two-euro Mabuchi ones, go to TapeHeads.
Jacques
As Jacques suggests, check the fuse on the regulator board (just below the motor). The motor MUST be servo-regulated. And capable of handling apprx 15V.But check the fuse first -most likely to be the problem, particularly if the old belts tangled and blocked the motor. Sometimes even the fuse holders are found bad.

Does the motor run when out of standby?
EDIT : Seventh attempt at posting this.
I tried to answer yesterday but it was impossible, i just got error reports.
Keith is updating the server and fiddling around backstage - as he mentions today.Perhaps that's why.
thanks for answering no it does not run at all
yes, I think it might be the motor, it does not run at all I have an old tape motor that might work in it, thanks for the link

Be careful, most decks have their motors the other side and are CW types. You need a CCW type. You can use the TapeHeads one with two 4007 diodes in series - although it could work up to 15V.
Attempt n°5
Did you ever manage to repair this, I have a beocord 8004, it engages and disengages several times before eventually engaging, once engaged it works fine and will play the whole side of the tape. Same thing if you try to rewind or fast forward, doesnt engage first time. Takes a few to 10 times to engage.
Make sure the little, metal tape guide didn't get bent where it is interfering with the engaging of the tape heads to the cassette. Sometimes that gets out of alignment and the Beocord exhibits behavior like you are seeing.
Thanks, I will have a look at this carefully! I don't think I bent anything there but it is possible whilst the transport was upside down. I did place it on a flannel to try to protect it everything. Would it likely be bent too far inwards or outwards? On a side note, the little brass fan type thing, that spins around as you eject a tape. What exactly does that do? Is it a type of governor to slow down the tape eject?

Downwards. So it hits on the front edge of the cassette.Check if it will engage with no cassette inserted.

Yes, It's an airbrake.
Had a look at this. It seems fine I think.. I'll attach a photo when I'm back on a proper computer.
It doesn't try to enagage without a tape in there.
The intention was to see, if it would engage and stay engaged if it didn't hit the cassette, so you will have to hold the switchat the back of the cassette tray to simulate a tape inserted.
