DLNA does not work properly.  choosing a playlist and tapping play will start playing the song and add it to the queue.  then it stops.

how do you just tap a playlist on a DLNA server and play it?  it shouldn't be this complicated.

I presume you opened the playlist and tapped the first song, correct? After this song the playlist stopped, correct?

I had the same, when I wanted to play an album.

The trick is the "play" button just above the playlist. So if you choose a track, the track will be played, if you choose the "play" button the album/playlist will be played

Correct, that's the way to play all items of a container.

@Weebyx: Could you make a feedback of the issue and we will take a look at it? Sorry for the trouble

... I absolutely prefer the Spotify way of managing the play queue - if you go to an album/playlist and select a song, the entire album/playlist goes to the queue, and the song you pressed starts playing. Just seems more intuitive to me.

Volume does not work after the beta update.

I play something. Go to another app. And then when I return back to X app, the volume does not work until I choose another track.

Same issue here, the volume controls in the act app is okay, but the mini control panel works only sporadically

I don't understand how the controls have been added to the lock screen and mini control panel (invoked by swiping up from the bottom of the iPhone)

At times when I raise to wake my iPhone, controls appear, at times not...what's the logic here?

Also the control panel (invoked by swiping up) doesn't seem consistent...right now I used the X app to play BBC Radio 4 on my A9

But swiping up, it's not obvious (first image) what I'm controlling...how do I distinguish this from the generic iOS control panel? It also says "Now playing on iPhone"....confusing!

i

If I switch the speaker icon to the A9, the already playing content (radio 4) stops, and an Airplay session begins......second image

Maybe there are limitations I don't understand?

So yes, definitely getting volume control issues, but also don't feel the control panel shown above is properly done as yet....

Dear MrAndersen,

I am not a part of your Beta-Tester-Group. I am a customer who has to cope with the recent hasty decission to remove the BeoMusicApp from the AppStore and replace it with a unfinished Product.. I am now on Version 1.02.6846 and while using this new App I get more and more agitated and angry.

- Simple functions like "Volume-Control" are not working properly.

- Scrolling through the collection of albums I liked in Deezer is giving me headaches - since there is no alphabetical order of  artists anymore.

- Sometimes the tiles of Artists I liked are turning black and therefore you have to guess which artist is behind a tile since there is no tile description. The whole App  turns into the childs game "Memory"

- Sometimes my other devices besides the BS-Moment are vanishing and will be only visible again after a restart.

- Sometimes the BS-Moment ist not visible and the BS-Moment-symbol is  signed with an exclamation mark. I can assure you, I am in the right WLAN - but if I wait a while "maybe" the BS-Moment is accessible again

- using the volume wheel on  the 2x bloated version on a iPad is sometimes difficult, since the "Device field"  is overlapping the volume wheel

- when accessing the DLNA-content there is no Artist-tile with a immage of the artist anymore, like we had on the BeoMusicApp

- sometimes the whole App won't respond to any touch until a restart

MrAndersen:

... One of the major goals of developing the Bang & Olufsen app, was to reduce the number of apps we maintain and focus on making the best experience in one app.  ...

... I know a lot of you are still using the BeoMusic app every day and it could be an inconvenience to change. You are probably also still missing some features yet to be implemented in the Bang & Olufsen app. But in long run we will have a more intuitive, cleaner and better app by making this change.

To be frank, It is more than inconvenient to be forced to a mandatory Bang & Olufsen login- account, and finally to unfinished Beta-App which is not stable nor reliable. I had to reset one of my iPhones. Installing the old BeoMusic-App was not possible without a iTunes-backup nearby. Therefore I thought  "Ok, lets give the new Bang & Olufsen-App" a chance. My summary could not be kinder. While I apreciate the idea, to make a better App,, B&O should consider a more customer-friendly aproach to introduce a new App. At least the new App should provide the basics of the old App. I don't see any groundbreaking new functions or improvements in comparission to the "old" BeoMusicApp.

In my opinion, I would have preferred, that B&O would had invested the time and the money in a new exciting device (everything- but another portable speaker or headphone)

Now you could answer," please use the old BeoMusic-App while we still try to improve the new App" - while you urge us in this thread, not to use the old App and the new App at the same time - because of expected/known issues.

Best Regards

Hi Beroli,

I really do admire your patience and your will to post important observations of the app behaviour (and of the BS Moment).

Thumbs up for that!

And I do hope, that the X-team will appreciate it (and benefit from it).

Personally I have decided to keep on using the 'old' app (which works well for what I currently need)...

.....untill this 'long run' is over.

There simply are too many hick-hacks in the new ;-(

Discontinuing the 'old' app is imo an insult against the future first time buyers of a NL device - they have no escape.

I X my fingers, that MrAndersen and the team soon will succeeed in their extensive venture.

I agree, it is such a shame to remove a fully working App, before the new is working. The latest version is really a headache regarding the Volume buttons/controls, and I wonder why these issues has gone unnoticed during testing. They are very obvious and 100% reproducible.

I have sent som mails and videos of the issues to MrAndersen, and he has been able to reproduce it, so hopefully the volume troubles will soon be over.

Every time I use the X App, I have a Beo4 close to me, as many times I go into the "Now Playing" screen, after having had unresponsive volume wheel, the volume is suddenly turned up, and I cannot use the App to turn down in time for not disturbing the neighbours :)

I am very unhappy with the current version of the X App..

Dear Millemissen, dear Jacob,

it is good to know that I am not alone with my opinion.

For me it feels like someone replaced my smartphone with a antique rotary dial phone, while promising it will turn into a smartphone in the future.

They only demand  for this to happen, I need to do is open a new account with the same company, hand over more personal informations, learn to use a other devices/ways to finally get the same results - just like I had with the old smartphone in the first place. ... and don't forget to call it progress/new experiences.

Cheers Beroli

I have for a long time thougt of buying a Beosound Moment and change all my "old" ML-equipment to new NL-products including BV Avant New Generation.

BUT: I will wait as looong as I can because all this software problems with B&O:s Apps, B&O:s musicsystem (Moment) and Beovision Avant/14.

I have bought an High-end Streamer, AURALIC ARIES, which is recommended by B&O in there latest Idea-Catalouge. This streamer does B&O recommend with Beolab 90 as the best Streamer you can buy. I have bought this for my Beolab 5. All I can say: The sound from this streamer to my Lab5 is the best sound ever I have had with this speakers. It is much better than any of B&O:s music-systems now and before. Important: Auralic:s software (the APP and the firmware software) IS VERY STABLE and very good!!!

TiP: Check the latest IDEA-Catalouge from B&O (version 3.2) and look for Beolab 90 and the suggested streaming machine for this speakers.

Hi guys

We are aware that the quality of what is out there right know is not good enough, and you should know that it deeply concerning for us to read about your issues. This should not have gone unnoticed and we are looking into how this can be improved in the future.

Bugs are top priority now and we will be releasing hotfixes in the next couple of weeks until your issues have been resolved.

I'm sorry for the trouble

Dear Thomas,

thank you for reading and your reply. Weeks? Hhm? Until then your team should consider to upload the old BeoMusic-App - just to have something out there, what is properly working.

I am sorry, but this outcome was forseeable. A Beta is work in process and should never be recommended for daily use until it is not finished.

I really do appreciate the openness of the X-team.

And it is nice to have feedback from you guys here.

However, in this case it might have been wiser to let a 'team' of Beoworlders have the betas/the work in progress exclusively instead of publishing it on the app store for everyone.

(Is this possible with an app at all???)

Of course the 'old' app should have stayed online....untill you and the beta-testers could be sure that the new app would function at least as well as the 'old'.

I am also well aware, that your venture of merging theses two apps isn't an easy one.

But for the sake of a 'good reputation' we need an app, that has the power to be better (and have more functions) than the 'old' Beomusic one.

Please keep up the good work, but please don't give 'mister average guy' an everchanging beta-app.

Those who decide for a (NL) B&O product deserve better.

Maybe better, but why should one delete a working app and replace it with a beta alternative? For sure people have lots of apps on their phones they hardly or never use. So leave it............ before the alternative is 100% functional.

I only started to use the BeoX app recently.

Still I didn't delete the Beomusic app and for some time it will be an unused "back-up" system

The Devil is in the Detail. Is it possible to verify user acceptance of solutions, during the betas. I would prefer getting new features slower, than the current situation.

Well, actually: https://developer.apple.com/testflight/

I'm no developer, but I've been using this as a betatester on a different app. It works great, at least from my perspective. Let's me keep the original app while I get a new betaversion alongside it.

That is not the problem!

We (who have both) can still choose.

But those, who now (today/tomorrow) buy a NL-audioproduct first time, can't - they can only download the 'unfinished' new app.

true, but is the BeoX app that bad?

And in what timeline we do have an even more acceptable version?

Since access to DLNA I'm using it. Before I just tested it. The more I use it the more I like it! That said I do still need other Beo apps to have certain functionalities, but do persons who buy today their first NL product need the same functionalities as in my complex system? I doubt it

'timeline' - I wonder if they know that themselves. These things are complicated - this is about controlling the entire B&O portfolio.

I agree with this statement, the X App is surely perfectible, but for Moment users it's the perfect companion that fill the gaps.

I face issues for sure, but 99% of the time it does the job for me.

Hi Carolpa,

really good questions.

Yes - the App is that bad, as I wrote in my posts before. Having vanishing devices of your setup is midly said disappointing. Having black tiles instead of artist covers is bad too and having a album collection without a alphabetical order of artists is not the cherry on top.

Regarding the second question. This is like rolling a dice. Nobody knows. Even B&O seems not to know, when they will finally get it done. B&O needed almost 2 years to fix the BS-Moment. The Apps (e.g. Deezer) on my Avant 1.Gen are still terrible to use. Now, some of us own a NG Avant and they face troubles as well - therefore forget that they will fix the 1. Gen - Apps. Now- Thomas is talking about weeks. How many weeks are acceptable?

to the 3rd - Just think of poor guys, who shoot a used essence mk 1. they can not even use the new App. Or buy nowadays a streaming device - a speaker, a beosound or a 35 for the first time, then try to use it with the new App only with all the said issues. How do you think - the customer satisfaction rate will be? How will it be for the dealership, who needs to explain these shortcomings to the new customers? Terrible.

That said, I still don't like and understand this rollout-strategy. B&O decided to run over their customers. Regardless new or old! Sometimes I wish there will be a chinese take over. At least they know nowadays how a luxury brand and their customers needs to be treated .

Cheers Beroli

Yeah, I like it too and really appreciate the communication on the development

And similarly since the DLNA addition I am using it much more

But it is also a long way from the finished article

And will probably only get there in 6 months

Would be nice (and maybe helpfull) if the X-app team could make a video (Youtube), that shows the possibilities of and the navigation in the app in the current version.

And DLNA Search is the missing ingredient for those of us with large libraries.

Additionally, the move to remove BeoMusic from the App Store at this point was, unfortunately, user hostile. The only point where removing BeoMusic from the App Store was when the X App was completely ready.

Luckily I've started keeping backups and copies of B&O (and other apps) just in case things like this happen.

The old adage: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, comes to mind.

I fully agree. It's not just a matter of fixing some bugs. That would be a downplay of  the situation. There are some areas simply not covered yet. The NL/ML converter is not supported yet. So I'm not able to power on the TV which plays the sound distributed by the essence connected via the BLC. I have to power on the TV with the Remote and then switch to the app for further navigation.

Of course that doesn't comply with the standards of a luxury brand.

First: do we talk about this app or a frustration about software and B&o?

About the app: my opinion isn't yours! I use it with different devices (BS35, Essence's mkII, Moment, BV11's) and until now I did not had (major) issues .  The app is still evolving and the direction it is going I think is good.

Maybe, they shouldn't have skip the BeoMusic app this early though.

Of topic: at my opinion B&o last year changed there policy towards their software issues seriously. They are more open, they really solve (serious) issues, they use us for input, wishes and discussion about the software.  Still they have not reached the final turning point............ it is a good point to stay critical towards their software, but at the same time is it not better to look ahead, than instead keep complaining about what went wrong in the past?

You are correct in that we need to step forward, and that is also what is happening. The big problem here is that the X app was low on functionality at first, but it seemed stable, at least for me and what I used it for in the beginning. If I needed something, I used the BeoMusic app.

Now that they are adding functionality to the X, then they encounter new SW bugs that kills some of the old functionality that was working, like the volume wheel/buttons, that are really bad on my device. I don't listen to that much music anymore since the latest release. I am tired of having an App that does not work 50% of the time, without having to restart it or do some hacks.

This is doing quite the opposite of the experience I invested in, when I bought the Moment and the A6.

But... removing the old app was still a MAJOR MAJOR mistake regarding new customers and second hand equipment in my opinion. I know the team needed to get people running the new version, also to get bugs out, and to get it running in complex setups, but this could still be done alongside the old app.

Lets hope that this new focus on SW will keep rising, and that B&O will hire more skilled people to get it up and running where it should be.

to your first question. Yes, yes and yes.

The App is unstable - yet. Have you read my posts above? I thought, I was very detailed about the issues in the new App. It is very frustrating, if you are forced to replace something, what is working well, with an unfinished substitute. I am frustrated, because B&O decided to do this roll-out-strategy regardless of this predictable outcome - and Thomas expected this in his first post. B&O struggled in the last years, when it came to its software. They know that and I am happy that they try so hard to be better in the future. I worked in IT for a long time, but I've learned that customers can be very angry, if I take something away without a proper replacement. Even a child knows " Don't touch the hot oven twice". I am passionate when it comes to B&O. I joined the beta-tester-group for the BS-Moment and I am still investing a big portion of my free time to test and report about several settings (MacOSX, RaspberryPi, Synology, Twonky, Minim-Server, creation of Playlists...) I try to find new solutions. For this I need to be frank to my contact at B&O. If I don't tell them minor issues as well and that everything is fine, they won't know what needs to be fixed. That's why they ask the Beta-Testers for Reports, pictures, videos - because they need more than a post in this forum. Maybe I earn a shitstorm, if I say, for some Beta-Testers is it more important to write about a test-run for Spotify (even if explicitly asked to keep it a secret), instead of reporting issues.

Nevertheless it is so frustrating, if some of the decision makers at B&O do not learn from their failures in the past. Because of that, I wrote about these historical software glitches. Rolling out this unfinished App to customers is a major fail. That is my opinion and I will never agree to such decisions.

Maybe the App is just fine and working for you. For me it's not. I don't need a daily discussion with my neighbors about the noise, caused by the volume glitch, in my apartment. Today a new version of the Bang & Olufsen-App is available. Great! Looking forward.

Cheers Beroli

I've also been in software for many years. Still am. I know the drill and how hard it is for all parties.

Thanks for your efforts here.

Me too. Personal betas. Corporate betas. Sev 1s - hardware or software. CritSits. The whole gamut over 50 years.

Let us celebrate that B&O, Thomas, and the unnamed team are trying harder than we have seen in previous years.

Keep up the good work Struer !!!

Hello all, any update on as to when the NL/ML converted will be supported by the X app?

I understand that now the effort is on the DLNA and fixing its bugs but I am mainly listening music via an NL/ML and I have to use the beomusic app.

The beta for NL/ML is imminent. Please write me directly if you want to be added to the beta program. I expect the first beta to be ready end of this week or start of next week.
