Hello,

I run the beta software on my moment and as I was browsing through my music on the jukebox the screen went crazy and it is just flashing now. Did a reset but with no luck. I can not even access the settings menu so I can do a factory reset.

Any ideas???

Is there still come a "tap to Join" function on the Moment? Like the other multiroom products.

And a fix for showing the right Cover Art's?

Nearly 650 posts later and still unresolved. Why are these problems still persisting. Been holding off for a couple of years due to problems. Guess I will be waiting for a couple more years if not longer....

Hi Jacob, any update / news from Struer?

Just that they are working really hard to get this issue resolved, the problem is that this is also in the middle of summer, and that also means that people are on holiday.. Let us hope they will have a solution very soon, I guess people are getting back from holiday soon. I do not have any specific details unfortunately...

For those on 2.2, on top of the speaker issues, do you have the following issues:

* When expert mode is selected a full DLNA scan is triggered

* JB stills show DLNA processing in progress even if the notification URL page shows harvest complete, including mood harvesting

* DLNA expert mode is not preserved after a SH off/on which brings you at the DLNA full scan step

Dear mbolo01, dear fellows

I experienced the same issues you have described in your post. Months ago I spoke with Lyle about a expert mode and it‘s possible integration into the settings. I really don’t like the result of the recent expert mode. If you activate the expert mode, you will have to create a special folder with tiles for every artist on your DLNA collection. This procedure demands a massive effort and invest of time from the customer, if he owns a large collection. Instead of filling up the missing artists tiles from such folder after a normal harvest -  you will have to create artist-tiles for every artist. If you decide to invest these huge efforts (search every artist, download/create/convert a artist-tile), B&O won’t give you the necessary specifications about the dimensions, the maximum file-size and supported file formats of the future artist tile. The expert mode was suposed to stop the never ending harvesting process and should make it easier to add missing artist tiles. This kind of “expert mode“ made it worse. You need to decide to have some missing artist tiles without the expert mode or you activate the expert-mode and you will have no artist-tiles at all. The harvesting isssue still remains and you won‘t have a stable collection. My collection, playlists are vanishing even if the “expert mode“ is activated.

The second thing is, this “expert mode“ demands a shared photos-folder. If you use a music-only DLNA solution as minimserver you will have no shared photos-folder. The expert mode will not work at all. A full DLNA-server-solution (Music, Photos, Videos) is mandatory.

Since months there are no responses to my beta-reports/mails from B&O anymore. I asked several times for a reason, why they stopped to response to reports (even if the reports including results of explicit given tasks) - no answer from Lyle about this topic.

Because of this recent attitude, I decided to stop testing and reporting. I invested a lot of unpaid time in the last years to support B&O to improve the BS-Moment. Now I am tired and not willing anymore. The given results and the recent treatment are not balancing my efforts. Buying the BS-Moment and believing it will leave the beta-status in a reasonable timeframe was a huge miscalculation and regret on my side. Some of you will say, this is just a matter of my pride. Maybe - but I am forced to use the Moment as Deezer only device - since the device is crippled with the latest Betas. I would gladly leave the beta group and downgrade to a stable working 2.x version - but even to this demand I get no responses from B&O.

Years ago some of you wrote, “I will buy the Moment instantly after the bugs will be fixed “- It seems B&O will never catch up to their promises and advertised specifications, when it comes to DLNA on the BS-Moment. In the light of recent additional bugs regarding speaker-issues and BeoMusic-App, I can not recommend to buy this device anymore.

I hope that Mr. andersons efforts to connect with his Beta-group regarding the Bang & Olufsen App will be fruitious. I really like, that he is willing to take a step back and start from scratch again, if the previous way seems to be a dead end.

Sincerely yours

Dear Beroli,

Thanks for this comment, and your effort to write your experience with the Moment.

A couple of months ago, a B&O employe visited my house on behalf of Struer to check my Moment and how it reacts within my home network. He spend some hours checking everything, WiFi signal, DLNA, etc.. And leaves my house with the promise that this would give technicians in the factory a serious help.

Never heard any reply or even a thank you from Struer. And there has been no bettering in the daily use of this player.

So 2 months ago, I decided that i am done with the Moment and locked the player in the basement. It is now ready to been sold for a reasonable price.

Never again will I spend my hard earned money again on a network player from this brand and I will think twice before I step in another buy from them. They just cant keep up with the big boys.

Dear Chris,

thank you for your kind words and for posting your sad experiences too. I totally agree to sell the device. The sad thing is I am still on the latest buggy Beta. Therefore the BS- Moment is not sellable at all. Second reason to keep the Moment yet - I just extended my Deezer subscription for the BS-Moment until next year -for using Deezer, the Device is decent enough.

I truly remember your first posts in Hiorts “One month with the moment“ in march 2015. Since then you and hiort were a very helpfull source of wisdom. I joined the BS-Moment-owner-club some days later and wrote some glowing reports, manuals and bad experiences in the following years.

Now we are 2 “veterans“ fooled by false advertisings and promises from B&O. Still, isn‘t it sad, that it is somehow comforting to know, that I am not alone with my experiences. Nowadays, that is the way - how the luxury brand is handled. What angries me the most is the fact, that this kind of B&O-support harms their own dealership deeply.

Would be nice for us beta testers to get a function to downgrade to any of the former versions. That way we can enjoy our expensive equipment when software is not functioning as supposed and we gave our testing input to B&O.

Same problem for me this is my first replacement as the the original was getting extremely hot such that it burned our fingers

Cannot downgrade even by the installerBig Smile so back it goesSad

Really pisses me off as I spent a day trying to pair up myself and another good few hours by the installer

I where under the impression that the Expert Mood where giving you the option to add your own cover art. Not that you have to do it.

I'm perhaps not on the latest beta because my Moment now works really well.

Hi Hiort,

if you activate the “expert mode“ the whole already processed database including all artist-tiles from your own DLNA will be “cleared/erased“. The harvesting process starts new and in the end you will have the artist-tiles from deezer only. Not one artist-tile from your own DLNA-collection! If you want to have for your DLNA-collection artist-tiles too, you will have to create said shared folder and place immages from the artists in it by yourself. A lot of work, if your DLNA-collection exceeds more than 2000 artists. Btw. The harvesting/ processing of the content seems never to cease. After a while your content is vanishing because of the never ending processes.

I expected a expert mode that allows to add the missing artist-tiles only and to keep all the already processed and shown artist-tiles. The recent expert mode forces you to choose between “some missing images“ (if deactivated) or no images (if activated). That is not a expert mode - it a “work-therapie“ for someone who has enough time on their hand.

... in my opinion...

I just bought a new Beosound Moment for my Beolab 5 urrgh.

Does anyone know whether Deezer Elite support will ever be in the pipeline?

This might negate the need for a DLNA server.

I think your expectations are correct. Yesterday evening I did a fresh start by selecting the Expert Mode and Rebuilding the library. While it is still in progress due to the large size of my library, I can see the only Artist Image i have loaded in my DLNA Photo, but I'm also seeing other artists images flinked to artists that I have in my own library. I'll update later as for now there are more artists without an image than with.

I own a BeoSound 5 with BeoMaster 5 and circa 300 albums in the BM5.

I'd like to buy a moment and use the BM5 as NAS.

Apparently, the harvesting processing trouble appears for large music collection (i believe, can you confirm?)

Do you think the harvesting problem woud be still there with my little albums collection?

And i will use Deezer for other artists...

Hi mbolo01,

I've tried 4 times on several Servers (2 NAS, Twonky, minimServer, ) to get a different result, than the described above. I saw only artist Images, which were uploaded in DLNA Photo. Of course, if I have the same Artist in DLNA (local) and Deezer, the Deezer artist Image is there - but the tile of the same artist from my own content stays grey (empty) - because of the lack of a picture in the DLNA Photo-folder. It will show up, if I create a image for this artist myself. With a large collection - to much workload for me.

I am sure you will recognize, that your playlists and content will continue to vanish, if the never ending harvesting process kicks in. That is really anoying.

The goal of the expert mode was to reduce the harvesting processing time for music-experts or better very tidy file-nerds (like me) with large collections, who had every possible tag (genre, album, title, artist, year, cover....) integrated in their music-files. Sadly the harvesting process took days for just 28000 tracks - in my case.

Cheers Beroli

Hi Steph,

there should be no trouble for smaller collections, like yours. BUT- even with small collections, you will face troubles if you create your own playlists. Sometimes the are gone. If you won't activate the expert mode, the moment will constantly search for new added content in Deezer and your DLNA-collection (different time frames). During these "checkups" some of your own DLNA-content will vanish until the checkup is finished. (happened very often in my case)

PS: I don‘t have a BM5 anymore - but if I remember right the Moment can not access the BM5 direct without additional changes. i don‘t know, if B&O made some efforts there too. Maybe there are BM5-owners here, with a more accurate solution.

Thanks Beroli !

What a pity all these software problems with such a beautiful product like the Moment!

I really like the concept.

Did you test the Moment without adding your local collection, only with Deezer (and vice-versa)?

And without the use of playlists?

It's ridiculous that they can't fix problems with DLNA Harvesting and Album Art.

Espacially collection CD's give me te wrong covers, each time i select a Collect CD, it's a suprise what cover it shows. It shows covers not that one is in my collection, on my NAS of has the same category....

But in the X-App it's shows always right.......

Overall the Moment works very well, like to see a "Tap to Join'' function and gapless playback (Deezer issue i understand).

Hi Steph,

If you use the Moment for Deezer only it ill work like a clockwork. The Moment is perfect for Deezer only. Sadly no support for Deezer Elite - therefore the Soundquality is limited. Because of this reason and the need to have usable device if Deezer is down, I want to use my own collection.

Since the trouble with the latest Betas, I use the Moment as a Deezer-only device.

Regarding the playlists in DLNA. If I add the DLNA-collection without playlists, the content is vanishing while a ongoing harvesting process and is back after the harvest is finished. If your DLNA collection is very large, the harvesting never stops. Sometimes a second session starts while the first is not finished. The result is a damaged database and you need to start from scratch. Just awful.

Yesterday I read the thread “one month with the moment“. We talk about the very bad DLNA integration for more than 2 years and B&O is still not able to fix the device. The workaround is the use of the App over ipad/iphone/android. This contradicts the whole idea behind the Moment - you should be able to use the Jukebox only.

Yes - It is a pity, ridiculous and a shame too.

Hi carolpa,

TuneIn works fine too, I forgot, because I don‘t use it very often. Sorry for that.

20.000 is large - of course, mine is downsized to 28-29tsd. Maybe that is the issue. B&O told me, they test with 40000 -but I don‘t believe that they really do that. If they would do that, the said issues with DLNA would be solved.

I allready shrunk my collection to the recent size and I don‘t want to make more compromises.

I am happy for everyone, if the Moment is working properly - sadly for me and with many other customers - it is wishful thinking. You should ask some dealers about their experiences. They are afraid to show the customer DLNA-content, mostly they do the presentation with Deezer only.

After using Twonky, I tested the minimserver for a long time too (even with the latest beta 2.2). This is a very good and steady Server, less demanding than Twonky - as long you don‘t want to use playlists and all artist covers are provided. Even with minimserver the playlists are vanishing, latest after the third harvesting process most of them are gone for good. After the first harvest, everything seems to be perfect - until the next kicks in. Known issue for B&O since months. They have pictures, videos, logfiles en masse. Do you use playlists? How is it working? With minimserver you can not use the expert mode, since there is no possibility to share a photo folder.

If everything is fine, why do you think some of us are still demanding a fix for DLNA. Just have a look on all posts regarding the new sound/speaker-issues, the “replacement“ for the BeoMusic app, the sad support regarding these issues. Do you really think, that B&O is doing enough to sit on a high horse? I do agree, they try to fix the device since years and they acomplished a lot. It is just not steady amd consistent. The result today, for me (stuck on a Deezer-only-beta-device) is worse than 1.x. Yes -TuneIn works too! Big Smile I think more than 2 years after the roll-out, as the main “high-end“ sound-system, still on the shelf, the task should be done.

Until today B&O is not able to provide a 100%-working, proper manual, which would explain how the device is set at B&O. No advises for DLNA-configurations, file-sizes, tagging, recommended Servers and their setup. Not that I need it for me. I am fiddeling with this device for years and I am sure enough to call me an expert when it comes to the BS-Moment.

My configuration:

Moment on a gigabit network, steady Wifi (perfect signal), BV Avant, 5 speakers connected to BV, 2 essences MK 2, several speakers and TVs.

Tested with minimServer, Synology NAS, Twonky installed on a macmini (only purpose to serve the Moment), PLEX, DS Audio ...

@Beroli

Just a thought: how did you tag your music files?

In general: if one uses for example higher resolutions covers, the harvesting seems to be tedious (an old issue even notable on the BS5's)

The covers used in my collection have resolutions of, or smaller than 1000x1000.

The general rule I experienced is the bigger the tag part of the music files the harder the proces. I had covers of 3000x3000 which seem impossible to be processed bij the Moment (and the BS5e). I replaced the covers with smaller ones, but the files kept the same size. The Moment & BS5e couldn't read them either. Than I deleted all the tag info saved the files again (sizes went down) and placed the tag info again. The Moment / BS5e could read the files.

Note: only one Album could slow down the overal harvesting process tremendously

If you replace your covers with smaller ones use mp3tag.

Deleted the covers, convert them with dbpoweramp to wav and then to flac again.

Now you can place the correct cover in it.

If you don't convert them to wav and flac the old cover stays in the file.

Hi Carolpa,

Totally agree to your statement about the covers. This was my first task more than 2 years ago, after I‘ ve bought the Moment and first harvesting troubles appeared in 1.x. I used the programm GrandPerspective (for MacOSX) to search for big files, replaced all covers to slim down the size of the tracks. (I recommend MusicBrainz Picard) The log-files I transmitted to B&O never showed issues caused by my music-files. My covers are are 500x500 only - big enough to show a decent cover on the Moment. In July 2015 I wrote some guides/manuals in the thread “one month with the moment“ to help other fellows. In the same year I met some guys in charge with B&O in person. Unbelievable - already 2!!! years ago. [:\'(]

I am sure, the troubles I explained above are not caused by my music-collection. My Moment worked for some software-versions perfect with Twonky.

Regardless of the tags in your files, the Moment is programmed to check every track, even tracks with no tags at all. This decission was made for the customers, who had very bad tagged collections of mp3-files (i.e. title01.mp3 no tags). This harvesting/enriching needs time. With the new expert mode, the recognition step should be mostly skipped and the harvesting process should be minimised to the necessary stuff only.

All my files including the playlists are accessible perfectly on every other DLNA-Player.

If you read my complaints carefully, I don‘t complain about missing covers in my tracks. I complain about vanishing playlists and DLNA-content caused by a never ending harvesting process and a useless expert mode. The later takes more time than before and demands, that you provide all artist-tiles by yourself.

Here is a part of the report I sent to B&O months ago.

“It seems, that the Moment is losing the the content while harvesting. See video below. After the first harvesting/enriching - everything was there. On the second enriching all 62 playlists disappeared until the enriching was finished. Today the 3rd harvesting is going on. All content vanished, while accessible over the Bang&Olufsen App. I would recommend, that the Device would ping the server (maybe to wake him, before harvesting and enriching some minutes later, or maybe a switch in the settings for the customer to stop any harvesting processes, if anything is perfect after the first processes. You can believe me - after the first harvesting and enriching process the Minim Server worked pretty well“

As you can see, it lacks no perseverance on my side. No response from the B&O-addressee since then.

B.t.w. Your conclussion about the file-size is not always right, since theMoment supports high resolution file-formats as well - and some lossless file formats are pretty big either.

Let's hope the next beta update will blow us away and we can move on. I like the concept of the Moment and am happy with it when it works although I am really missing Deezer Elite.  I signed up for the beta track and am fully aware I have to deal with issues now and then in order to help improve this product to a stage we're all happy. Guess the holiday break as well as the launch of Beolab 50 kept Lyle and the team busy updating software on other products. Hope they can go full speed again on making the Moment better. I'm positive although I understand it's difficult for some of us with especially large music libraries and the expectations B&O set with people at the time of launching the product and the beta track.

Regards,

Norwin

Hi Norwin,

if I remember right, you own your Moment since August 2016. Therefore I do understand your fresh optimism and patience. Hold Fast to it!

I knew why I signed up for the Beta. I had hopes these tests would speed up the development of the Device. At least I expected a proper communication and help, if a Beta is crippeling the Device. We paid a premium to use the device. Now we are so desperate, that we sign up to be guinea pigs, just to improve our property. We try to find excuses for B&O, like: new upcoming products, other software issues with other devices, holiday, small company ... . We hope, that B&O will be great again, like the company we fell in love a long time ago. We all know about the troubles B&O faces with software - but still we support B&O and buy their products. At least for this “bravery“ we deserve a proper treatment.

I regret for myself, that I have not returned the device and listened to the promisses, that the next update will finally keep up to the advertised features. I expected a professional Beta-Test - but there are no failsafes or downgrade-possibilities in place with B&O. My patience is gone. Therefore I demanded to leave the Beta-group and a downgrade to a stable version, no response from B&O. I would gladly take my money back and move on instead of wasting more time.

I'm a lifelong B&O fan. I can live through the dark times...and have...in order to enjoy the light (Beolab 50).

I‘ve bought my first B&O 25 years ago Big Smile . My apartment is crowded with B&O - but there is a time, when I have to put down my feet. Which sound-system will you use to “light“ up the Beolab 50 in these dark times?

With the BS-Moment - over WISA - in mono - in internet-bitrate-soundquality? Devil Devil

Since we now know that this is a problem with the Moment, and not the Beolab 19, I'm posting this here instead of in the "Help - no sound playing from..."-thread...

Anyway. Feeling down, and wanted to share. I just mailed this to beocare and copied in my dealer:

Hi again.

I am copying in my dealer on this, as a heads-up.
Is it possible for you now to give an estimate of when you expect the problems with the Moment to be solved and an upgraded software to be available?
After 11 weeks of no music in my living room and some serious consideration I have come to the decision that if the problems aren’t rectified in the immediate future I will return my Moment to my dealer and demand a complete refund. I have given up hope. I’m sorry.
Under norwegian consumer law I can do this within five years after the purchase of any product that has a life expectancy ”well in excess" of two years and if the dealer/manufacturer has repeatedly failed to rectify the fault of the product. I believe these criteria have been met by now. I have owned my Moment since it was first released, and it's not like it was working flawlessly for two years before these eleven weeks either. The PL cable I got to borrow from my dealer remedied the situation slightly for a short while, but now that the BL18 in the far corner of my living room refuses to play as well the cable is no good and I’m returning it tomorrow. Also, the cable didn’t fix the issues with sound quality, so every time I put on music I just got depressed and turned it off again after a few minutes anyway.
It is a sad decision as I have really wanted to love my Moment. I love the concept and I really don’t know what I will replace it with. Probably just a Transmitter 1, so I can continue to use my speakers wirelessly, and a non-B&O player of some kind. We are a normal family with small kids and average salaries, and for us the Moment/BL18/19-package represented a significant investment and was a big decision. I have wanted to save for a Horizon and a Beosound 1 as well, but after these last months I don’t think I can convince my wife (or myself) that it is safe to wager our money on a B&O product again. Both Ina at beocare, my dealer and Lyle have been very nice and, I believe, sincere in your wish to help. But sadly that doesn’t change the fact the Beosound Moment just doesn’t work as it should, and never really has.
kind regards,
Well, I'll post it here if I get a time estimate. But my guess is they won't be willing to commit to a time table, which might be wise I suppose.

Dear Henrik,

I deeply feel with you and agree with your decision. If the norwegian law provides this way, you should go for it.

Taking in the faulty device for 11 weeks without a substitute device for listening music is exactly the behaviour I criticize lately. Maybe some of us should print out some handouts describing the “B&O customer support“ and the recent software issues for the upcoming IFA 2017. Angry

I guys, i'm always late to the party but since I'm new to B&O, I placed an order that needs 3 months to be delivered which included a beosound moment...

Now please tell me that the issues described here are because of faulty units....

Should I expect troubles when I get my moment ?

In the setup I have with my Moment, I have no problems.

Moment is connected by wire to my network.

Moment is using the BL3 speakers connected to the Beovision 11.

I use Synology NAS for my ripped CDs, and use Synologys built in DLNA server.

Cheers
