Hi guys

A mate recently cleared out his late father's garage and found a Beogram 1700 turntable in amongst the chaos. He was going to take it to the tip but I drove over there straightaway and rescued it from the boot of his Lancer!

He guessed that it had been in the garage unused since the mid-nineties and as such was very neglected and in a bit of a mess. However the MMC 20 S was present and in good nick plus the original manual, guarantee card and cartridge test certificate were under the lid!

I didn't expect anything from it but after a thorough clean, I plugged it in and it works and sounds fantastic. Mostly.

When the '33' button is pressed, the arm goes across and starts to play ok, but the problem is that it spins far too quickly making even Tom Waits sound like Pinky and Perky! After the record has started to play I can press the '45' key and then the '33' and it then slows down and spins at the correct speed. The '45' speed works perfectly.

If anyone has got any ideas about fixing it, I would be very appreciative.

Mark

Reason:
The motor pulley slips on the platter belt at startup, acceleration is too easy and speed gets too high. The electronics happily
accept twice the motor speed and settles it there until changed.

Cure:
Replace the belt.

Thanks Martin.

That does seem very likely what's happening.

I'll get a replacement belt and see if that makes it all better!

Regards

Mark
