• Re: BeoSound Core Compatibility
I have bought a Core now and will try to make the PowerLink connection but also the digital connection. I will take the optical out from the core and add a converter in between so the optical is converted to SPDIF for Beolab 5. The speaker - will that run for Option 0 or Option 1 ?
Rudi, how did this experiment go with getting high quality streaming to the BL5?

  • Re: NL/ML converter discontinued?

I remember reading the manual where it said in option 1 it will automatically take coax input over analogue. Didn't realise you could still feed in Powerlink as well. Will the volume control still be via PL in option 1?

  • Deezer HiFi, Eclipse & BL5/50/90

So Deezer HiFi subscription is going to be/ is already on Eclipse. To get the absolute best out of this with B&O high end speakers (BL5, BL50 or BL90), how do you connect from Eclipse to the speakers? With only Powerlink output from Eclipse, isn't this non-optimal compared to say a digital connection? Or does this not matter? If it does matter, and if Eclipse cannot support a digital output to front speakers, what is the best way to get Deezer HiFi to your speakers?
However I would need to use powerlink cables I believe and not use the BL5s internal DAC anymore. This made me all thinking about the quality of my BL5 DAC dating from 2005 vis-à-vis the new BS Core 2017 DAC....
From reading the BL5 technical manual on this site, when feeding the BL5 with PowerLink cables the internal process is PL -> converted to digital -> converted to analogue -> speakers. The SPDIF connection goes straight to the middle

  • Re: BeoSound Core Compatibility

Questions about the Core: can the optical input be passed through to the NetLink ie the Ethernet cable? can this source then be used anywhere on the NetLink? can you have more than one Core in a multi-room set-up? how expensive is the Core compared to a ML/NL converter?

  • Re: Beolab & Loewe BILD Integration

Interesting thread. I'm keen on the Eclipse but interested in the Loewe, especially if the 77 can be had for the same price as a 65 Eclipse. A few questions re the Loewe: I'd like 7.1 surround and was planning on an Oppo. Can the Oppo replace the need for the Almando? How do you configure BL5s to act as both front speaker and as sub? The floor stand looks awful. My perfect floor stand for such a big screen would lower the screen to the floor when off, raising to a viewing position when on

  • Re: BVs that can send "CD-source-command" to BL5?
Hi, the Beosound 9000 sets the option automatically when powered! NO speakers or dummy plug connected => A.OPT 0. Only if speakers connected (or dummy plug inserted) A.OPT 1 . The dummy plug is from a 5, 7 or 8 pin DIN Plug with PIN 2 and pin 4 shorted or better a small resistor of about 1K Ohms (1/4 W). I don't know whether the powerlink switch supports this feature.
Are we talking about two different things? The Beosound manual talks about several

  • Re: BVs that can send "CD-source-command" to BL5?
I should be able to have two setups; one CD stereo listening mode: Use spdif + PL connection from the BS9000 via the PL-switch to the BL5s, and one multiroom setup: Use aux-connection from the BS9000 to the Elipse (line in), and PL from Eclipse via PL-switch to the BL5 as well.
Why are you using the aux-connection in this way? Why not use the second PL connection to the Eclipse, or the ML? I found the following information in the BL90 manual: Bang & Olufsen

  • Re: BVs that can send "CD-source-command" to BL5?

Great idea to use the Aux output like that for non-CD output. Question: does the BS9000 need to be set up to the in the same "room" (Option 1) as the BL5s (even if it is in a different room) so that when CD is played the data comes out the PL instead of the ML? Or is the PL always "on" no matter Option number?

  • Re: BVs that can send "CD-source-command" to BL5?

Martin, this is very interesting, would this same solution work for BS9000 and Eclipse? I have the BS9000 in a different room from the Eclipse. So let's see if I understand you correctly... The purpose of the PowerLink switch in this particular case is to send the "CD-source-command" from the BS9000 via PL to the BL5, nothing more. The PL is not used to send analogue sound to the BL5 from the BS9000. Setup: the connection might go like this: Eclipse (PowerLink speaker output) ->
