I am playing the Beolab 5 with digital input and have a sync cable (mini jack cable) between the speakers.

I am using the Essence wheel for on/off and volume. They start in sync, and sometimes they get out of sync, but not always. I have tried the Beo4, and this is the same...

Have anyone tried this before... ?

It could be software, but 2 years ago both speakers was updated with new software, so...has this been update since...

I have tried another mini jack cable without success...the manual says an approved cable from B&O, but I have a cable from a normal cable provider...there can not be much difference to them ?

(additional question is how to adjust the sensitivity on the wheel, as both me and my family sometimes have a heart stop...when it turns up the volume fast...)

Hmm...strange ??

Best regards Rudi

Hi Rudi,

I made mine, and it works...

NB: You know it's a crossed cable, do you? With a standard cable, they're not synchronized : check this first because what you describe looks like this (sometimes, the signal from the remote may not be received correctly by one of your BL5, that's why you need a sync cable)

additional question is how to adjust the sensitivity on the wheel, as both me and my family sometimes have a heart stop...when it turns up the volume fast...

Lightning Broken Heart Super Angry

I don't think it's possible. I confirm that the wheely is less accurate than the Beo4, with larger steps and there is a small offset (plus it needs fresh and powerful not rechargeable batteries) : the only solution I found is to be careful and to keep an eye on one of the green light on top of the BL5 (it flashes when the command is received) Unsure

Hi CB (what is your name ....)

Ahhh...crossed cable..I did not know..mine is straight as I cut it and soldered again...this is of course the solution !

Thanks (again)...

Are you working with B&O everyday as you have this in detail knowledge of the products... ?

Best regards Rudi

Laughing no, no, I've had the same problem earlier, that's all (and I read what's written on Beoworld forum Yes - thumbs up )

hi,

I'm not an expert in your particular setup and I'm reading this via a phone. However, if you are using an Essence to connect your bl5s, you don't need the sync cable. The RJ45/PL connection from the Essence (both L/R) or daisy-chained is enough. The sync cable is only used for non-B&O receivers to control volume.

your signal flow should be Source >> Essence >> RJ45/PL >> BL5.

my answer seems very simplistic. I'm not sure if I'm picking up your enquiry correctly or there is a more complex issue at hand.

Mr10Percent, sorry to be unclear in my post, I use the Essence knot to control the volume - I do not use the Essence box

hi,

So if I assume correctly, you use a 3rd party source and an Essence controller to directly control the bl5 volume?

I would also assume that you have line-in cables from your source to each of the bl5s and the sync cable between them to match volumes?

if so, then as previous post state, ensure cable polarities are matched. Failing that, look to buy an Essence box???

I doubt there is a problem with the lab5s per se but unbalanced feeds brings a lot of complication to quite powerful active loudspeakers.

From my understandig Rudi is using the Essence wheely in IR mode. Therefore no Essence box needed.

The real advantage of this setup is that you can use the SPDIF input for all sources and not limited to CD only.

Yes, this is what I understand too. The problem would seem that in doing so, there an inability to a) control BL5 volume smoothly and b) the balance between the BL5s as they are currently step-up.

The solution as far as my little experience goes is to re-check the sync cable and the SPDif cables from digital source to BL5s as previously suggested to the OP and then possibly incur balancing/timing issues with the volume or alternatively if the OP adds an Essence Box this will then balance the line-in signal to the RJ45's but at the cost of a direct digital connect.

Hi Rudi

Can you switch the BL5s on and off using the Essence remote in IR mode?
