After playing with a couple earlier Beograms and being overwhelmingly impressed with the sound and emotion of them I've now opened my eyes to idler drives etc.

I've borrowed a friend's thorens TD124 and have been performing upgrades and maintenance on it. I've been working with a couple thorens specialist on this model and a couple other thorens I've found and have been having such a blast rediscovering listening again.

So, I know these are rare and highly sought after but if you are looking for a new home for yours- I'd love to start a conversation.

If you really want a good one, talk to Frede at Classic Audio. He specialises in the Beolab 5000 system but also restores Thorens decks. He did mine which has the 12" arm and is sprayed in a fetching Mercedes Blue.

You will not only get the very best deck but you will be in contact with one of the friendliest and generous people I know. He obviously knows more about the 5000 system than anyone I else I have come across. Have a look at the linked site.

Why did you change your name? It always amused me that we had a collection of Peters!

Thanks Peter!

I'll have to start emailing him soon. Although, I do love a project.

How do you like using your BG3000? So many people I've talked to just collect the "best" Thorens and don't really use their tables.

Also, after spending time on other audio forums I found some people associate very strongly with their forum nickname and I wanted to be respectful of those who have come before me and used Peter as their name.

Maybe I can be Peter USA like 'Søren Mexico' or BeoPeter or Petergram or Peter14 or Petermaster. Uhm, that sounds dirty. I don't know, the Internet is new to me.

Needs a Nickname:

Following on from the beer thread, how about.................. "Growler"
